"ORLANDO (CBSNewYork/CBS News) — A co-owner of a Florida gun store revealed Thursday that his employees called the FBI after the Orlando nightclub gunman Omar Mateen...who killed 49 people at the gay nightclub Pulse, came into his store about five weeks ago...Mateen asked for level 3 body armor, but the store doesn’t sell it....Mateen made a phone call and spoke Arabic before asking for bulk ammunition.

The employees did not sell him any ammunition and Abell stated that “we contacted FBI direct” after Mateen left the store, but they were “not as attentive as we would have hoped.”

Gun shop owner: we called FBI

This is bizarre, and ends with an FBI opinion that if a potential terrorist was denied a weapons purchase,"it might tip him off that the FBI is on his trail". Reminds me of the Minnesota FBI person Colleen Rowley who tried to stop 9/11...good luck with that...

How it happened that Omar Mateen was licensed to carry weapons (and at one point was guarding a Florida State Courthouse...through G4S, a huge, international company, subcontracted by Dept.Homeland Security...G4S also guards nuclear plants)

Dr. Carol Nudelman denies testing Orlando shooter

"Nine years ago, the state of Florida received documentation from a security firm vouching for the mental health of Omar Mateen, who launched a bloody attack this week on Orlando nightclub patrons.

But the psychologist whose name appears on the document in state records said Friday that she never evaluated a man who now ranks as the worst mass killer in American history. In fact, she wasn’t even living in Florida when the evaluation was supposedly completed.

"The revelation Friday became another source of scrutiny for the G4S security firm, which was known as Wackenhut at the time. The psychological evaluation done for the company, which is required under state law, cleared Mateen to carry a firearm as a private security guard."

RIP Elie Wiesel
Activist and writer Elie Wiesel, the World War Two death camp survivor who won a Nobel Peace Prize for becoming the life-long voice of millions of Holocaust victims, has died, Israel's Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem said on Saturday.

Wiesel, a philosopher, speaker, playwright and professor who also campaigned for the tyrannized and forgotten around the world, was 87...

The last project of the year for my Sophomores was a joint assignment between my class and their History class based around Wiesel's book Night/.

Horrific train crash in New Jersey...they're saying the train didn't slow down as it entered the terminal...no idea how many are dead but they are bringing ambulances in that can carry FORTY patients at a time....not good at all.

11735. Ms. No - 9/30/2016 1:54:23 AM

I woke up to a text from my mother letting me know that she was nowhere near the train crash ---- my folks just relocated to Hoboken in February.

11736. judithathome - 10/1/2016 12:22:36 AM

OMG...you must have been freaking out...

Sorry to hear your folks are so far away...we loved meeting them and interacting.

Does this mean you won't be coming back to Teaxas and our area? Would hate to hear that!

11737. Ms. No - 10/4/2016 4:44:56 AM

I won't be back to Texas to visit my folks, but I still have family there. I'm most likely to see you in Arkansas if I can get out to the gathering this year. I miss you guys!

11741. judithathome - 10/4/2016 9:43:02 PM

Hey...MsNo...anytime you come to Texas and want a ride to Arky's, just let us know...we are good to go anytime.

I may be blitzed on pain meds to get there but trust me, I can recover quickly!

11742. Ms. No - 10/8/2016 7:33:51 AM

I may ask for some of those pain meds next time around!:)

This summer is a big family gathering in Mazatlan for my folks 30th anniversary, Cory's sister's 50th birthday, and his brother Jim's 60th. I don't have the dates in front of me, but I think it's the 3rd week of June.

11743. arkymalarky - 10/8/2016 8:25:44 AM

How fun!

Followup on Malheur Refuge occupation: The Bundys were acquitted (no update on the Hammonds who are of more interest). Back when the "Occupation" was happening I had a strong feeling that I was watching an odd political theater with paid actors. This impression is confirmed by a man who attended the trial and paid close attention.

"Finally the Justice Department stipulated (without naming any names) that at least nine occupiers were undercover informants; a number greater than the number of defendants on trial. (Heavily redacted documents in the hands of the defense suggest the number of informants was actually at least 15.)

"Significantly, the prosecution’s most damning evidence collapsed at the end of the trial when it was revealed that the man who ran a militia shooting range at the Malheur Refuge was himself an undercover agent. Through the hard work of defense lawyers, “John Killman” was identified as a paid (“reimbursed,” he said) informant who traveled to the occupation at the behest of the government in a beat-up pickup truck to lead the occupiers in combat “safety” training. “Killman” had even trained defendant Jeff Banta to stop cars and pull out their drivers at gunpoint."

Paid informants

Our tax dollars at work. Such bullshit. Public theater should be labelled as such

11745. arkymalarky - 10/28/2016 5:17:56 PM

Good to see you stand with the Standing Rock Sioux.

11746. Trillium - 10/31/2016 4:39:17 AM

???

Arky, are you suggesting that the Standing Rock situation involves a 2:1 ratio of US government informants to Sioux and other activists?

The East German Communists bankrupted their country by employing a ridiculous number of people to inform on fellow citizens. It's a very unhealthy and unproductive situation when governments engage in that type of behavior and I don't approve of it.

If you believe the Standing Rock situation is also seeded with paid informants, go ahead and explain, that would be interesting

11747. arkymalarky - 10/31/2016 5:02:37 AM

Whereas your predictability is very uninteresting.

11748. Ms. No - 10/31/2016 6:53:47 PM

Trillium,

I'm not sure that's such a great source. The article right before it extolls the virtues of a Trump presidency and why more intellectuals should support him. Then there's the sidebar link denying climate change and claiming that there's some not-so-secret cabal of university professors across the nation trying to undermine Libertarians.

The Oregon Times is reporting that there were as many as 15 confidential informants --- not the same thing as undercover agents.
