Mine are to learn to play Inventions more passably, and brush up on Greek so I can finish the Odyssey.

Current board games are Carcassonne and Alhambra. The right level for me and my daughters. They will presumably have better things to do by the time we're ready for really clever stuff.
Greek is a noble ambition. I've been reading the classics in translation, off and on : Aristophanes most recently. Translations vary enormously, which makes one want to read the original, but despair of ever understanding it. Translation is very culture-sensitive. The last translation I read makes the plays seem like pornographic English pantomime. I’m happy about the fact that the Republican effort to pack the Supreme Court with enemies of women’s rights will not be as successful as it was in the past. I question whether the Congress would have swallowed the BS that promoted the Iraq war with a Congress that was fifty percent female.
