3001. judithathome - 7/26/2006 7:24:23 PM I don't know what we're expected to do, either. People complain about its being too slow and yet, no one comes here to post about anything or engage in discussion. People carp about how there's only one point of view but they won't state theirs, just accuse us of being of one mind. People do drive-bys once in awhile but never return to answer or pose questions...and if they do, don't bother to stay around long enough for answers or responses.
Are we expected to drag people in and tie them up to get them to participate? People gripe about Jex but even if we kicked him out, those people wouldn't come here and take up the slack...it would be something else that was "wrong" with the Mote.
I post at RI but there seems to be a lot of cliquishness over there and sometimes animosity at participants AND the host...Psych Prof puts up with a lot. It's a busy place at times. But that's because there are more people over there. You can't force people to come here...or go there...what is it we need to do? 3002. PsychProf - 7/26/2006 7:30:27 PM It is clear to me(eg AC and Arky) that most, if not all, like the place the way it is. That is a reasonable position, just not mine. I am fine with that. 3003. wonkers2 - 7/26/2006 7:42:15 PM We cam't drag them in, but when they come in we can make them welcome rather than berating them because they posted in the wrong thread or belittling them personally. 3004. PelleNilsson - 7/26/2006 8:09:11 PM It's the equivalent of Gresham's law that is at work. Just like bad money drives out good money, bad posters drive out good posters. Who would like to post a dissenting view in, say, Politics when the only result is insults and harassment rather than rational discussion? Everyone knows that I'm no fan of Jenerator, rather the opposite, but I think she has been treated shabbily here recently. And what can one say about the smug, self-satified responses to PP? Tragicomic? 3005. judithathome - 7/26/2006 8:24:39 PM Pelle, you've hurled your share of insults here in the past. Don't let the smug and self-satisfaction wear off completely.
I'd be willing to bet if you had your way, more than half the posters here would fall under your "bad poster" banner. Fine...suppose we all leave...according to you, this place should start hopping!
I'll go first...won't be around for the next four days and then next week, four more away from the computer. Let's see if we can get your complete list and we'll all stay away during that time.
Alistair and Macnas can let us all know how quickly the hordes show up, champing at the bit to post free from the irritation of the bad posters! 3006. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 7/26/2006 8:28:18 PM First, I apologize if I stepped on any toes. If I'm guilty of any of Pelle's (continual) accusations–but Pelle, you're full of bull and resentment and I doubt if I'll believe your regurgitated bile.
If there's a consensus around here that finds me overbearing, smug or self-satisfied, I sincerely want to be told (and I won't be silent about apologizing for my behaviors--unlike some Swedes), but don't expect me to be lied about or insulted without givin' as good as I get. 3007. PelleNilsson - 7/26/2006 8:54:49 PM My remarks were not aimed at you, WoW, you overestimate your importance. I guess that goes along with the temperament artistique: all heart. no brain. 3008. arkymalarky - 7/26/2006 9:10:30 PM I didn't see any problem from the outset. Tmesis posted a no-content unprovoked slap at the Mote and specific posters, and people responded fairly typically. That used to be sop around here, certainly from Fray days, and with much less or no provocation. WRT individual posters, I don't waste time hanging around people whose company I don't enjoy, waiting for them to change, and I would expect most others who consider their time valuable would behave similarly.
The same principle, btw, should also work in reverse: Good posters drive out bad ones. I've never seen the principle work in either direction. 3009. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 7/26/2006 9:13:35 PM Wrt your pas behaviors. is it any wonder I would make the assumption?
And it is the brain that recognizes patterns–patterns of behavior, as well as art.
And isn't the heart supposed to be about morals, and values and ethics–all behaviors?
Your salvos of un-"aimed" recriminations are more tedious than you seem to know, but evidently you just can't help yourself, can you?
Get over it, Pelle and stop the petty horseshit. 3010. PelleNilsson - 7/27/2006 1:31:11 PM Yes, Wiz. Let's try to start anew. We were friendly once. 3011. iiibbb - 7/27/2006 2:07:22 PM My only gripe about the Mote is that it's hard to find old posts. While the stream of consciousness format is unique... it can be slightly tedious.
However for the howevermanyodd posters there are here it's a minor gripe.
I've said it many time... I largely come here because people here generally don't think like me. I don't know why people would go to a discussion site where they are completely unchallenged.
What's the point of arguing the 2nd amendment at an NRA board?
The best part of the mote is there is little in the way of flaming and spamming. The vast preponderance of you are not completly in left field. I miss some of the old conservative voices that were here. It was fun to read the flurries between the old guard.
But whatever... people who can recognize that they're taking the mote too seriously are right to not spend a ton of time here. Isn't good for them. 3012. wonkers2 - 7/27/2006 2:14:18 PM Well said. 3013. Jenerator - 7/27/2006 2:59:09 PM Arky - you thief!!
( ihad to leave right after I posted millennial run) 3014. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 7/27/2006 3:16:39 PM Yes, Wiz. Let's try to start anew. We were friendly once.
Yikes!!! Keep surprising me with your human side and we will, Pelle. And just for my own awareness, was there an incident that you recall that started all this sniping?
My only recollection is feeling that you attacked me out of the blue for some unknown (to me) reason. I know my images offend you, but I can't help that. However, I don't ever recall attacking you first–most of my memories are of responding to your personal attacks that always seemed unprovoked from my perspective.
But I have not lied, I really do NOT have any personal animus for you or anyone here now or in the past for that matter.
I enjoyed the sparing with Ace, Cal, Niner, Trouser, et al. I wish they were still around to ridicule–that is to say, because they were so f#@king arrogant and mean-spirited–needing the ego-deflation, IMHO. 3015. wonkers2 - 7/27/2006 3:19:52 PM Let's all join hands and sing Kumbaya! 3016. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 7/27/2006 3:31:23 PM I hope your boat's head backs up!
(Thanks for the links, btw!) 3017. alistairconnor - 7/27/2006 3:37:32 PM Ace, Cal, Niner, Trouser, et al.
If that's TrouserPilot you're talking about (he of a thousand monikers), you've bracketed him with strange bedfellows indeed! He was always a card-carrying Democrat. 3018. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 7/27/2006 3:49:33 PM If that's TrouserPilot you're talking about (he of a thousand monikers), you've bracketed him with strange bedfellows indeed! He was always a card-carrying Democrat.
But arrogant and self-important beyond belief. A very funny and smart guy whom I enjoyed, but he could also be a mean-spirited and devious little prick, 3019. alistairconnor - 7/27/2006 3:50:54 PM Ah absolutely! 3020. arkymalarky - 7/27/2006 4:47:14 PM Which is what made him so fun.
I can only speak for me, but if I had my druthers I would spend more time here than I do. Even at my busiest I insist on popping in the Mote and making at least one post almost every day, just to tell myself I still have time to do rhings I want to do.
