Here we go again. "barely-discriminate?" Lighten up, Wombat. Not everyone has time for lengthy dialog–maybe they just want to share what they found interesting.
There's plenty of room here for it all; besides, one can easily scroll over what is perceived as detritus & flotsam.

Not only are there other places where the same--or better--material is found, but I can read them without having to wade through some posters' repetitive and unconstructive (sometimes bordering on anti-Semitic) comments.
I have always seen the Mote as a place for conversation with long-time acquaintances, rather than information (particularly in the more political threads). When the Mote is at its best, I am often amused, and occasionally enlightened, but nothing more than that. The problem is not the links or other info. The problem is not that conversation is impossible.
The problem is that conversation can be a fearful thing. When did these complaints begin?
