The Yamamoto/Bin Laden comparison is, if anything, even more idiotic. A better comparison in terms of risks and consequences would be the attempted hostage rescue in Iran that Carter authorized. Its failure was a major contributor to Carter's defeat. If 0bama saw the results of his policies and initiatives in the future having reduced liberties and freedom of religion in the United States as well as having restricted almost any other freedom, most of that wouldn't concern him much - after all, he spent most of his formative years in a society (Indonesia) with much more restrictive mores and less tolerance for those with differing beliefs or lifestyles than we have in the US, so he probably really feels that these greater restrictions are the 'norm'.
