The nitpicking side of me insists on pointing out that it's the spring equinox, not solstice ;-0 Have fun.

We have a big summer solstice party every year. I bring out the cardboard-and-tinfoil solar oven and bake cookies. The kids think it's a hoot.

Linnea, another nitpicker beat you to it...ha! Over on the Atlantic.

Well, I know it's usually nothng and I can say I'm not worried but my mom had a mastectomy when she was exactly my age so I am a little antsy.

But after all this crap with my leg, I just know this will turn out to be nothing.

6024. arkymalarky - 3/20/2004 6:16:21 AM

That sucks, Judith. I had one with the message you got a few years ago and it was a teeny-tiny cyst. I got one last year after waiting two weeks for the results that said, among other things I don't remember, "abnormal--see your doctor as soon as possible," which about killed me from apoplexy before I could get to the phone and call him to find out that from the report they sent him it looked highly unlikely to be cancer. It turned out to be a cyst too. The result of this one hasn't come back yet and now I'm stressing because of last year's experience. It just makes an already un-fun event miserable.

I hope you get it followed up on soon so you can get on with a fun spring. You deserve it after a winter with a broken leg.

Good luck, Judith.

Judith, Cap'n Dirty sez "Breast exams aboard the Tomater Sloop. No charge!"

6027. anomie - 3/20/2004 8:06:44 AM

Wonks,

Me thinks you may need an assistant, or....First Mate...or whatever. ha!

"your examination showed a finding that requires additional imaging studies forcomplete evaluation. Most such finding's are benign (not cancer)."

Juds, I have had two similar warnings in recent years, both were caused by Fibroadenoma and I needed no biopsies after second mammograms were taken and examined by experts in such lumps.

6029. thoughtful - 3/22/2004 2:44:59 AM

So sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm fortunate in that where I go for mammos, they make you wait and if they see something funny, they ultrasound you right away so you don't have to go back. They did this to me one time when they found "something" and then after ultrasound, several people looking, much head scratching, decided it's not cancer, no way is it cancer, but we're flummoxed as to what it is. Had me come back 6 mos later and looked again...no change, so it is what it is.

I'm thinking of you and hope you get the answers you most want to hear.

6030. judithathome - 3/22/2004 5:04:11 AM

Thanks...I called the place and I'm going in on Friday afternoon at 4pm. I figure if it were something serious, they'd have made room for me earlier so I'm not going to worry about it.

6031. wonkers2 - 3/22/2004 7:04:41 AM

Judith, we're keeping our fingers crossed for you!

6032. arkymalarky - 3/22/2004 7:17:42 AM

I'm glad you got it scheduled, Judith, and if it's like it was with me, they let you know right then whether it needs further testing and what they see.

Thoughtful, that's a very Thoughful™ service where you go. I wish they did like that here, though the radiologist will talk to you when you get checked in the follow-up. Mine came back normal this time.

6033. arkymalarky - 3/22/2004 7:19:53 AM

One thing I will never do again is the mammogram van that comes to school every year. It's a great service, but when you go to a different hospital for follow-up on a flagged reading it's awful trying to coordinate and get screens, etc, and a bunch of people besides me have had flagged readings from it.

6034. judithathome - 3/22/2004 7:21:58 AM

Well, the scheduler stressed that I shoud be there on time because "that's the latest we schedule those types of readings" and I assumed it was because the person would be there. Thanks for telling me that, Arky...and congratulations on your good report!

And thanks, wonks!

6035. arkymalarky - 3/22/2004 7:37:51 AM

Thanks.

When I got the ultra-sound last year the lady who did it about freaked me out when she said "Hey, that's a big one!"

I said "A big what!?" and she looked at me like *duh* and said, "a cyst."

6036. judithathome - 3/26/2004 10:24:06 AM

I'm going in for a needle biopsy on 7 April and the doctor said we'd see what this thing is and go from there.

6037. arkymalarky - 3/26/2004 11:27:30 AM

I hope it goes well, Judith. Did he say anything about the size of it?

6038. judithathome - 3/27/2004 12:04:09 AM

He said it was about the size of a small pea. It looked odd to me but of course, I've only seen normal film...you could definitely tell it was there.

6039. wabbit - 3/27/2004 1:49:51 AM

Good luck, JaH, I hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

6040. wonkers2 - 3/27/2004 4:51:10 AM

It's probably nothing. But if it is something, there have been great advances in recent years in treating breast cancer.

6041. judithathome - 3/27/2004 5:49:25 AM

Thanks, guys...I'm not going to waste time worrying about anything until...and unless...I need to.
