7855. judithathome - 3/29/2013 6:33:13 PM Yes, no pills to take, even! All I have left is follow-up visits to the oncologist every four months.
Just waiting for the pool weather to hit...shouldn't be too long now! 7856. anomie - 3/30/2013 3:15:28 PM Great news, Judith. 7857. wabbit - 3/30/2013 8:30:39 PM Excellent news JaH, I'm very happy to hear that! 7858. thoughtful - 3/31/2013 4:45:53 AM That's wonderful news! 7859. judithathome - 5/11/2013 7:38:17 PM Arky, did you ever do immunotherapy for your allergies? I had testing done and it has been recommended to me.
Need to talk to my oncologist first (on Monday) before committing to it...one year is quite the commitment for that many shots! 7860. arkymalarky - 5/11/2013 10:04:37 PM it depends. Is a real pain and I quit doing it even though I think it might have been working. because I'm allergic to so many things, I have to get shots in both arms which is 34 dollars a week when you're on a deductible insurance like I am.you need to commit at least an hour of your time kama because you probably wait 30 minutes to get in and you're supposed to wait 30 minutes after they give it a shot. A lot of people don't, but its not a good idea to leave before the times up. Really if you're having symptoms, the best thing to do is stay on a regular antihistamine that you take everyday and deal with your symptoms. After your a kid not a kid anymore I don't know the shots are really worth it. 7861. arkymalarky - 5/11/2013 10:05:40 PM kama! Haha! Maybe iPhone is better voice to text 7862. arkymalarky - 5/11/2013 10:07:03 PM and of course if you have the option, try to avoid the triggers. Since I'm allergic to the planet, that's almost impossible for me 7863. arkymalarky - 5/11/2013 10:45:26 PM I forgot to mention that I was going to have the school nurse give me my shots but after my allergist sent the liability waivers the superintendent overruled it. 7864. arkymalarky - 5/11/2013 10:47:01 PM Mine is supposed to go three years. Maybe when I retire 7865. judithathome - 5/12/2013 9:15:09 PM Well, I don't know if there are different shot therapies or not but the guy who did my tests and would be in charge of my case said they would teach me/Keoni to do the shots ourselves at home. They are more like pinpricks than "shots" per se. Actually, this would fall on Keoni because I'd have to have them in my right arm only and I'm right-handed. (can't have shots, etc. on the left side due to lack of lymph nodes on that side since surgery last year.)
Maybe I'm hesitantlogy because I have so few actual allergies and they are milder than yours were. I'm not having even half the symptoms I've seen you go through.
I think I will see the onco doctor and then tell the guy at my doctor's office that she advised against them...ha! I should have just said I wasn't interested in doing it when I had the tests done...but I was too chickenshit to do it. Plus you're sitting there with test results showing these numbers and you start to think Oh Wow...I'm ALLERGIC! 7866. judithathome - 5/12/2013 9:17:06 PM hesitantlogy...jeez, WTF?
Okay, the -logy belongs on "onco"...I could SWEAR I revised that correctly! Guess not. 7867. arkymalarky - 5/12/2013 9:31:25 PM I wouldn't be allowed to do my own until I got on maintenance, which being 3 years is probably never going to happen. I just don't see that it would be worth the trouble and expense when antihistamines are cheap, safe, and work great for most things.allergy treatment is about symptom control, so if you can do that without getting shots to me that would be the least annoying alternative.bad as I am,I don't see doing the shots anytime in the near future 7868. judithathome - 5/14/2013 6:25:20 AM Angelina Jolie has revealed that she recently underwent a double mastectomy, after learning she has a gene that predisposes her for breast cancer.
Link 7869. judithathome - 5/15/2013 7:02:14 PM I passed on the allergy shots. 7870. arkymalarky - 7/2/2013 7:11:37 PM Stan and I are in a competition that goes through the month of July. We weighed in yesterday morning. I have a Fitbit, and yesterday I logged 5 miles, 12000steps, and 12 flights of stairs. I want to do that everyday, but that will be a challenge. I'm tired today. I'm tracking my food with the lose it app, which is the hardest thing for me. It seems like I can hardly eat anything and reach my calorie limit.this Fitbit is synched to lose it, so the more I move the more calories I get to eat. 7871. thoughtful - 8/13/2013 2:03:05 PM Why why why must I keep trying to stay fit and in shape and deny myself so much food I love when it's easier to just chow down?
Because I don't want to end up like my buddy. He's in a bad way.
He was always overweight, big gut, but pretended like he wasn't. He wouldn't work out regularly, but he'd decide to, out of the blue, go on a 20 mile bike ride and come back injured. Or decide he's going to golf 18 holes and come back with a torn rotator cuff.
Well, it's all caught up to him. He's already had a hip done. They were going on a trip to Europe and he decided he needed to "get in shape" so he over did it and damaged his other hip. He went but couldn't participate in many of the walking events. So he came back and had his other hip done. Then he spiked a high fever and had trouble peeing. So he went to the urologist who found out he has a large malignant tumor in his kidney. So he needs his kidney removed which they scheduled. But he was out and tripped over a curb and fell, fracturing his femur where the implant is, so now he can't put any weight at all on the leg for 6 weeks and he's had to postpone the kidney surgery. The "good" leg has a bad knee that needs to be replaced. And eventually, of course he'll need to have his prostate done, after the kidney removal.
Now some of this may not be related to his weight and diet and exercise, but surely much of it is. Even it if isn't, if he was in better shape, all of this would be much easier to deal with.
I think I have to go do my pilates now.... 7872. judithathome - 8/15/2013 11:15:19 PM Well, I've got a friend like that, sort of...but I think his problem is that he's addicted to surgery. Sort of like some people become addicted to plastic surgery and keep having more and more of it, this guy seems to have numerous orthopedic surgeries.
Eating well and exercising is something we all need to do...it's too bad our friends don't always take inspiration from those who "do the right...or sensible" things. But they seldom do. 7873. judithathome - 12/14/2013 5:08:13 AM Keoni survived his hernia surgery just fine today...despite a three hour delay and the doctor finding it was more involved than he'd first thought. He even survived me driving us home...a HUGE feat!
But I really lost it with the nerves....threw up about 5 times in two hours. (Luckily I made it to the john each time so at least I wasn't totally humiliated.) I was amazed at myself because I'm always the one with the stiff upper lip who can be relied on in an emergency...nerves of, if not steel, at least something tougher than I showed TODAY....
But the little old "candy striper" lady knew exactly what was going on and mothered me so helpfully, bringing me water and crackers...a real sweetheart. 7874. arkymalarky - 12/14/2013 5:31:37 AM Oh my! Glad Keoni did well and I hope you're better!
