Take her Oh Great Mandingo..she's yours

Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to give up her Senate seat and accept the position of secretary of state, making her the public face around the world for the administration of the man who beat her for the Democratic presidential nomination, two confidants said Friday.

    .
    “She’s ready,” said the confidant

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A top Republican said on Friday that Democratic U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is "off to a good start" and indicated he was pleased to see President George W. Bush get ready to leave. "Our members, in one way, are kind of relieved by the departure of an administration that became unpopular and made it very difficult for us to compete," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell told reporters on Capitol Hill.

One sunny day in late January 2009, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr.Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The old man said, "Okay", and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to
Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?"

The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it."

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow, Sir."

Krugman whines (marshall before that) about leadership drift under the lame Turducken GWB..

Now this for coupon clippers in Darien and Grosse Pointe

    From THE FINANCIAL TIMES...

"A euphoric rally drew a torrid week for US stocks to a close on Friday as reports that President-elect Barack Obama had selected Timothy Geithner to be his Treasury secretary helped the market bounce from an 11-year low.

Investors welcomed the prospect of an early appointment as it reduced the threat of lingering political uncertainty that could further destabilise markets during the transition period.

“We’ve had a lack of leadership at the top,” said Jim Paulsen, strategist at Wells Capital Management. “Most of all it’s just a reminder that we’re having a change.”

Get over it, Clinton haters

Obama's choice of rival Hillary Clinton for secretary of state shows his political wisdom. And the vetting suggests the Clintons -- surprise! -- have little to hide
