I think she is a talented young lady...as do a considerable number of her co-artists...she won an Emmy for her HBO series. Of course, that doesn't mean she is anything special...to the Little House On The Prairie crowd, she is probably considered the devil incarnate.

And by the way....lighten up, conservatives! Her ad was great!!

Perhaps you all prefer the latest Donald Trump shenanigans but trust me, people under 30 do not.

Re. 44805 -

It was also shallow and completely uninformative, and what does sexual gratification have to do with making the best electoral choice, anyway? Less than nothing - it's an obstacle to making any sort of informed electoral choice. That is why I called this ad the most demeaning political ad to women that I've ever seen. Rationality is the enemy of being in rut while casting ones' ballot. Chris Matthews (a man, at least nominally), has received a great deal of derision for compromising his objectivity, and rightfully so, over his overt bromance with 0bama.

Here's a clue, JAH. If a politician is trying to turn the voting experience into the intellectual equivalent of peep shows even as a 'joke', any voter would be a fool or worse to endorse it.

I thought women were supposed to feel cheapened and taken for granted by being subjected to crass sexual and emotional manipulation for political gain. Guess not. Instead, its 'great', to use your term.

Btw, who posted this a little upstream?

Jesus...18 posts unanswered and you sink to a colon joke? A ridiculous and very unfunny one, to boot.

I never said it was a 'great' joke that I 'sunk' to. But at least I'm not one to try to pluck your magic twanger to coerce you to vote a certain way.

But I want to try to clarify my point here. Let's concede that Lena Dunham is talented, that's she's even a star of sorts, and that her performance is 'great' and 'edgy' in this political advertisement. Given all that, that still doesn't seem to affect that what she presents as important issues in that ad are narrowly focused on a limited number of 'female' issues that she places in a purely emotional context, and not much more. Without insulting her personally or her craft, that's my basic point.

44809. concerned - 10/27/2012 3:54:28 AM

Imagine if Dunham had only changed two words: 'Mitt Romney' instead of 'Barack 0bama' in the entire ad. The whole United States would be sounding like an air raid siren of female outrage now.

44810. concerned - 10/27/2012 4:16:51 AM

I didn't even touch the stuff that Dunham thought made the ad really 'edgy'.

I guess you missed the class on SATIRE, huh?

What I find hysterical is all the Republicans clutching their pearls and sounding like Great Aunt Fanny...swooning about how dirty the sexual innuendo is! Hey, people...it's YOU who are putting the "sex" in what she is saying...and the best part? She knew you would do exactly that!!!

Too much information, Con!

OMG...TWO double entendrés! Shame on the Gipper! I'm shocked, shocked I tell you...bring on the smelling salts!

Not sure why it adds up to 100.1%, BTW

Education department?

Re. 44811 -

The 0bama campaign didn't buy the spot because it was satire. More like dancing to 0bama's fiddle.

Smugger and sniffier than his constituency.

44820. concerned - 10/30/2012 5:38:17 AM

How about 0bama leaving the Libyan ambassador to die? That's got to fire up the base.

44821. arkymalarky - 10/30/2012 4:02:26 PM

That's ignorant and offensive.

44822. concerned - 10/30/2012 8:33:02 PM

I'm definitely offended by it.

44823. concerned - 10/30/2012 8:47:12 PM

The fact is, 0bama refused to order any reinforcements in whatsoever which he could easily have done to save these American lives in Benghazi. He had plenty of prior notification and plenty of time, with the Benghazi embassy requesting military help during the opening minutes of the attack and 0bama could have ordered reinforcements from Italy to back up the embassy within two hours but declined.

Here's what the father of Ty Woods, one of the embassy personnel killed, had to say about the situation:

Within minutes of the first bullet being fired the White House knew these heroes would be slaughtered if immediate air support was denied. In less than an hour, the perimeters could have been secured and American lives could have been saved. After seven hours fighting numerically superior forces, my son’s life was sacrificed because of the White House’s decision.”

Try telling Charles Woods that his feelings about his son and how he was needlessly sacrificed are 'ignorant and offensive', arky.

Instead, what the WH did was try, for weeks, to blame a video which had nothing to do with the planning of this 9/11 attack.

To sum up, 0bama personally, and his administration in general, are guilty of some of the most heinous politically motivated actions I have ever heard of in Benghazi. Add to this the human death toll in the hundreds, if not thousands, of the politically motivated Fast and Furious program, and the 0bama Administration has shown that they are not fit for office.
