Aw, man! I wish!

29031. thoughtful - 1/19/2018 5:25:29 PM

Just stopped by to wish y'all happy new year and glad to see there are a few who are still hearty and hale.

I'm doing fine and getting ready to march tomorrow...still have my pink hat from DC last year. Hope it's the last time I'll need it!!

29032. arkymalarky - 1/19/2018 6:14:05 PM

Yay Thoughtful! You go!

Looked for something happening here and didn't see anything, but I've been working on trying to get something going with organizing with voter registration and gotv in my area. There is pretty much zero inf9rastructure of the democratic party in Arkansas now. Back in the good old days it was Bumpers, Clinton, Pryor, and we were really looking good.

So glad you're doing well and I hope you have a good year personally as well as politically! I hope we all have one politically.

Good to see you, Thoughtful!

I'll be marching tomorrow with more than 20 of my students. We'll probably get more than that -- not everyone bothers to sign up officially, but as small as we are, this is 10% of our entire student body.

I've got friends who will also be marching. Not sure how I'm going to juggle my association with both groups. Hard to remember to be student-appropriate when I'm hanging with my grown-up friends. I'll chalk it up to "it's good for students to see their teachers as real people with lives outside of the classroom."

29034. arkymalarky - 1/20/2018 6:08:44 PM

That reminds me that probably 20 years ago at least a student grabbed me by the arm in the hall and pulled me into the office and whispered in dismay,"I saw you in a liquor store!"

29035. thoughtful - 1/21/2018 2:57:46 AM

I marched today in NYC with about a couple hundred thousand other people...what a wonderful time, though I sincerely hope I won't have to march next year!

29036. Ms. No - 1/21/2018 4:34:08 AM

There is something so beautiful about that kind of solidarity. I love that we march, but I hate that we have to.

29037. iiibbb - 2/8/2018 12:25:17 AM

hello

29038. Ms. No - 2/9/2018 6:55:37 AM

Good to see you, i3b3! How're things?

29039. Ms. No - 2/10/2018 7:21:03 PM

Chimney cleaning and repair this morning - may burn a fire tonight just because I can!

Running my first load of laundry and set to cut the grass for the first time this afternoon.

I'm sure I'll need to be reminded of how excited I am about all of these things in a couple of months, but right now I'm having fun doing chores.

29040. iiibbb - 2/14/2018 5:31:23 AM

Apart from the country... they're fine mostly.

29041. Ms. No - 2/15/2018 1:47:51 AM

Yes, there is that. I avoid public radio because it riles me up. I'm sure some asshole somewhere is calling me a snowflake for being so emotionally wrung out by the state of the State right now -- had some wingnut say "we had to put up with Obama for 8 years" as if there were any equivalency other than that they were pissed off.

This country needs an enema.

How're your kiddos? You've got two, now, right?

29042. arkymalarky - 2/19/2018 5:04:29 PM

3i!

29043. iiibbb - 2/19/2018 9:11:03 PM

Kids are fine... they're in K and 2nd. Wear me out.

I don't know how single parents do this because I suck with a partner.

29044. Ms. No - 2/21/2018 5:19:39 AM

I don't know how anyone does it at all. Having kids seems like the most terrifying thing in the world to me. I'm thankful and awed every day that my brother has done it four times.

29045. bhelpuri - 2/28/2018 8:17:58 AM

greetings, old friends! another year goes by and it is nice to see the lights still on in this place.

29046. bhelpuri - 2/28/2018 8:22:22 AM

being a father is fun! best thing I've ever done, probably. my oldest (now 18) is away at boarding school in the mountains, and I miss him terribly, while spending considerable amounts of my everydays with his younger brothers (14, 10). its all so rewarding + meaningful...

29047. arkymalarky - 2/28/2018 4:58:03 PM

Hey Bhel! Good to know you're still doing well, and can't believe your oldest is 18 now! But the most fun thing in the world is being grandma just sayin

29048. Ms. No - 3/2/2018 6:22:22 PM

How great to see you! 18??? Are you sure? I know I don't feel 18 years older, and I remember when he was born.

My oldest nephew - the Claw - will also be 18 this year. I'm still letting my brother do all the child-rearing. He's best-suited and I'm just not that brave. His youngest (of four) just turned two this past December, and this one is the only one that seems to be aging at the right speed. I think it's because I get to see him more often, so he doesn't change quite so drastically from visit to visit as his siblings did.

29049. bhelpuri - 3/6/2018 2:33:17 PM

Arky - I don't doubt grandparenthood is tops. Congratulations!

No - 18 it is. I think I've been in touch with this forum's members for around 22 years now! that's rather a long time...
