Happy birthday Mote, 1999-2017, hard to believe.

Happy Birthday to us!

Now that the silly season is upon us, I implore you, PLEASE don't shop on Thanksgiving Thursday. If we all stop showing up at 4pm or 6pm or 11pm or even frickin midnight, maybe the retail giants will give their minimum wage employees the damn day off for real. Buy online if you must, or if you are with relatives who can't have a civil discussion about politics or religion or whatever, but DO NOT shop in person. And now I wait for the usual trickle-down economy idiots to explain how it isn't just single moms and other minimum wage folks getting screwed...but really, as long as it isn't them...

29013. wabbit - 11/23/2017 1:05:56 AM

Oh yeah...

Happy Thanksgiving Moties!

Happy Thankgiving to you all!

Moties here and gone are one of the things that I am still thankful for every day. Hey, some of my best friends are Moties! ;-)

Here at my brother's place for the holiday. Folks in from Jersey, all four of my brother's kids are here --- the oldest you may remember as "the Claw" with a lettuce leaf on his head. He's a senior in high school this year and just got accepted into both Northern Colorado and Boise State. The youngest, who is two on Dec 1, is playing in a cardboard box condo in the living room floor.

Good times.

I'm waiting to hear back as to whether my home search is over or I have to keep looking. I have two offers in right now and one is looking really good, but I have learned not to get excited until the contract is actually signed. I've been this close and closer before, so I'm cautiously optimistic. :-)

How fun! We've been grandparents and that's been so wonderful, and my family is having Thanksgiving at our house here in a little bit. Love my mote Buds and I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

Still moving ahead with the house. At this point, there are very few things that could upset the apple cart. I've already started packing, but I won't truly believe it's real until the keys are in my hand.

If it does fall through, I'm still moving. They've raised my rent again -- total of 35% over the last 8 months -- and they just aren't taking care of shit like they should.

Plus, I was burglarized the week after Thanksgiving. It was bad, but could've been worse. I wasn't home, but I'm still having a lot of anxiety when leaving or returning home.

Time to get into a more secure building whether it's mine or another rental.

Ms. No, definitely time to get out of Dodge, I hope the house paperwork is moving quickly.

Merry Christmas to all!

Time to kick 2017 to the curb! I've been in a funk the last month and can't seem to get out of it. Winter Break isn't always a good thing for me since it's cold out and I can just hibernate at home. This year I've been packing and trying to sort through stuff and clean up after the break-in, but I've spent way more time on the couch reading than I probably should have with all the stuff I need to get done.

Closing on the house this Friday -- was hoping it would happen sooner since I'm still off this week, but moving MLK weekend won't be too bad.

Looking forward to the next semester when my student teachers take over most of the planning and grading for my English classes.

Headed to a party tonight, but wishing I was going to the more low-key gathering that another friend is having. I already committed to the large gathering though, and I'm bringing food, so I will just be grateful I'm so blessed with friends.

Grr! I just want to be in my house and painting and fixing up and arranging. My mother is coming out at the end of the month for about 10 days to help out, and my brother and his wife and the baby will be up for the last long weekend of that, so I'm really excited. Bro is going to install some electrical outlets and maybe help me upgrade the sink in the master bath. I'm just thrilled that I have someplace for them all to stay now!

Okay, I'm rambling because I'm avoiding chores. Hope you all have a wonderful new year and safe celebrations wherever you happen to be tonight!

Still have about 8 hours of shlepping small stuff from the old place and then cleaning, but I've been sleeping in my house since Saturday night.

Sleeping really, really soundly. So soundly that I've been late getting out of bed every school day this week. Gonna need to make an adjustment there. Plus, the house isn't huge, but it's enough bigger than my apartment that I have more places to go in the morning when I'm getting ready. I haven't moved into the master bedroom yet, so my routine will take some more adjusting.

Started painting the living room this past weekend. Once I get it finished, I'll go pick up the framing job I put in back in November. They've been kind enough to hold onto it for me so I didn't have to move it twice and lean stuff against a wall for weeks. I'm really excited about it!

Mom's coming in next Friday for about ten days to help sort and decorate and throw out. All of these things that I've been accumulating and saving for "someday when I have a house of my own" now get their chance. If I unpack them and find they don't go in the house, then they go out to the curb. Or Goodwill, or whatever.

I've done a pretty good job of not bringing anything into the house that I'm not immediately using. I did have to bring kitchen stuff in, but those boxes are sitting in the breakfast area waiting to be unpacked. I've got kitchen stuff that I can toss, for sure. I don't want to just put it on the shelves and then see it in the back of a cupboard someday three years from now covered in dust.

So, the garage is holding almost all my boxes. A lot of them are books that I can donate to the SPCA store. Some of them I can bring to my classroom, but most of them it's time to just let go of.

I eventually want to finish out the garage enough to have a workshop space. Right now I'll be setting up the 3rd bedroom to do leather in, but it will be serving a dual purpose as an office, too. Hell, it may stay the leather room. I haven't tried to work in there yet, and I may find that it's too closed-in feeling for me to write or do school planning in.

So many things to do and here I am still having to show up to work every day. :-) Next week is finals, and we have shortened days, so I'll have more time to play in my house, but that's pretty much all I want to do right now.

29029. arkymalarky - 1/18/2018 8:37:36 PM

That sounds so fun and exciting! If you lived here you would have had the last four days to work on your house because of an inch of snow which shuts the world down in Arkansas
