Oh well...

6667. judithathome - 7/13/2014 8:33:53 PM

(just HAD to get that #!)

Never even noticed that number - but I did get my kitchen painted today!

The 2014 World Cup is over, Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time.

Wise Dan wins the Shadwell Turf Mile - on to the Breeders Cup! Grand Arch, a 19-1 shot, finished second, a neck before Sayaad. Kaigun was fourth, another 1 1/2 lengths back, while Seek Again, the 5-2 second choice, ran sixth.

Daredevil stamped himself as one of the top 2-year-olds on the East Coast with an effortless 2 1/2-length victory in the Grade 1, $500,000 Champagne Stakes at sloppy Belmont Park. Upstart, the undefeated New York-bred, finished second by 12 3/4 lengths over The Truth or Else. El Kabeir, Holy Boss, and I Spent It completed the order of finish.

Treve became the first horse since Alleged in 1977 and 1978 to win consecutive Prix de l’Arc de Triomphes. She was not quite as explosive this year as last, but her margin of victory still was two lengths, and Treve never looked in danger after making the front without being asked at the top of the Longchamp homestretch. From there, Treve bounded home under hearty encouragement from Thierry Jarnet, whose fourth Arc win came 22 years after his first on Subotica in 1992.

Message # 28398 in thread 142 I was rooting for Green Bay, so sorry they lost.

I also agree with Dwayne Allen, "...not a story. They could have played with soap for balls and beat us. Simply the better team. We have to continue to build!"

That said, rules are rules and if they were in violation, the Pats should be smacked hard. However, since QB's, kickers and special teams have their preferences, and since the honest ones will probably admit to breaking this particular rule at one time or another, maybe it is the rule that needs changing. How about this - a team can inflate the ball to whatever they like, but all 12 balls must be the same and the other team must be informed of the weight pre-game. Also, all balls must be tested before and after the game. Kinda like testing race horses, yes?

6671. judithathome - 1/23/2015 9:03:34 PM

I agree with Bob Costas...a rarity since I loathe the pompous asshole...they could have played that game with bricks and the outcome would have been the same.

Much ado....

6672. wabbit - 1/23/2015 11:56:13 PM

For whatever reason, the Pats are hated far and wide. I heard something on NPR this afternoon about a poll that showed the country as a whole believes the Pats cheated, with the exception of a few states in New England. Does anyone else remember when the Pats were so bad they changed the name to New England Patriots from Boston Patriots, so the blame could be spread around?

Are the referees also cheating? They handle the balls throughout the game, don't they know an under-inflated ball when they feel one?

Agree with you JaH, much ado indeed.

I also never understood the rabid haters of sports teams. Geez Louise people, get a grip. I'd rather see a good game where the local team loses but fought hard than a blow-out like the Pats win over the Colts. I enjoy the sports themselves, and while I understand it is fun to root for the home team, do we have to hate someone to prove we're fans? There are plenty of Yankee haters here, excepting Jeter, who is universally liked and respected. But "I hate the Yankees (or any other team)..."? I don't get it.

How about making supporting the Cowboys a "game-changer" in politics? Cripes, Gov. Christi has been pilloried for liking the Dallas team...there are plenty of REAL reasons not to like him but his choice of football teams to root for is NOT one of them...

Does anyone else follow bull riding?

6675. arkymalarky - 4/19/2015 11:40:07 PM

I have a former student who does. That's as far as I've ever gotten with it. My dad rode a bull in a rodeo one time. Are you thinking about something regarding that new movie? Or the PBR?

6676. judithathome - 4/20/2015 1:04:33 AM

My son was a bull rider...and a GOOD one...tops in his rodeo club and in the city at one time.

6677. wabbit - 4/21/2015 12:01:22 AM

PBR, not the movie. Just happened to be watching at the time of that post.

6678. iiibbb - 4/23/2015 10:46:44 AM

Follow. No. Watch when on. Yes.

Those people are nuts and incredible.

6679. vonKreedon - 4/29/2015 8:51:00 PM

My son finished his college tennis career last weekend. An emotionally profound change in our lives.

6680. judithathome - 4/29/2015 9:15:00 PM

So what's in store for him now, VK?

6681. vonKreedon - 4/30/2015 12:04:08 AM

Not entirely sure, which is one of the profound changes as since he was 12 he's always had clear goals and means to them. He does have one more semester before he graduates, not all his Fresno State credits satisfied U. Portland's requirements. It's actually a very nice thing; his scholarship continues to pay for school even though is NCAA eligibility has expired, and he'll be able to have a final semester as just a student.

The 37 year drought ends! American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown. He was the best two year old and is the best three year old. Congratulations to Bob Baffert, Victor Espinoza and the Zayat family and to Coolmore for wrapping up the stallion rights after the Preakness. Gotta love a horse that doesn't get a great jump out of the gate, but finishes a mile and a half race with his ears up.

Note to Steve Coburn - not one of the horses running against American Pharoah had run in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Enjoy that extra large slice of humble pie.

Another great race at Belmont yesterday was the Metropolitan Handicap. Honor Code came from last to fly past the field in the stretch and win over Tonalist and Private Zone.

Wedding Toast got an upset win over Untapable in the Ogden Phipps Stakes. Curalina won by a neck over By The Moon in the Acorn Stakes.

Congrats to the USA Women's Soccer team in defeating Germany and getting into the finals of the World Cup!! Go, Team USA!

6684. vonKreedon - 7/2/2015 7:22:49 PM

Nice, a rematch with Japan for the cup!

6685. arkymalarky - 7/2/2015 9:17:26 PM

But that poor British girl!
