I moved here in 1971.

One of the most common gun rights advocates positions is that making laws about capacity, class of weapons, or around misnomers such as "assault weapon" (usually based on cosmetic features), "cop killer" (basically any hunting round), "armor piercing" (again, many hunting rounds) etc. won't change anything...

"Enforce the existing laws"

Now Obama sets out to improve the enforcement of existing laws and many are all bent out of shape. Speaking as someone who believes in gun rights, the right to protect yourself, and who has never liked the common and pointless proposals made by "common sense" gun control advocates who seem to know little about the subject... Gun rights people should embrace Obama's move. They should have led the charge on this move. Totally misplayed because they either hate Obama or have become so recalcitrant that they can't think logically.

Obama's move is easy.

46122. arkymalarky - 1/5/2016 7:55:14 PM

They're literally beginning to look like they Support arming terrorists and killers. It's hard to see another way to look at the way they approach gun regulation

46123. iiibbb - 1/5/2016 8:02:07 PM

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

The problem with gun rights leaders not sensing the winds of change and leading the charge for moves like this, they lose the ability to influence the outcome.

If they'd proposed this stuff after Sandy Hook they could've looked like the were doing something constructive.

Because I still believe most gun control measures aren't going to stop a person intent on causing mayhem... however, I also know that perception is reality. Better to expand background checks that pursue the cosmetic fluff that's been at the forefront of gun control proposals in the past.

I have nothing but admiration for Obama. I wish he had a better government to work with.

The kerfuffle over Cruz's citizenship is stupid. Even with the schadenfreude it is not a good idea to beat the drum because it empowers xeonophobes. He's never had to swear an oath in a naturalization ceremony. He's as much a citizen as any "anchor baby".

The US has a lot of problems and we shouldn't indulge this kind of stupidity.

Where were all these Republicans supporting the birth of our current President who was born of an American mother in an American STATE???

Double standard much?

46127. iiibbb - 1/8/2016 10:43:06 PM

Of course it's a double standard.

All the more reasons Democrats should reject the idea of it. They're basically jumping on a line Trump is towing.

Just drop it. Let them destroy themselves.

46128. judithathome - 1/12/2016 11:59:22 PM

Why is anyone listening to that idiot Ben Carson? More than half his staff have quit doing so....these are people who should know him best in the political arena...many left paying jobs to volunteer for no pay with another campaign!

46129. arkymalarky - 1/13/2016 5:42:37 AM

Greatest president in my lifetime.

46130. arkymalarky - 1/13/2016 5:43:44 AM

Nikki Haley gave the best presidential response from a Republican I've heard since he's been president.

46131. iiibbb - 1/13/2016 1:55:30 PM

I think he's the best president of my lifetime as well... obfuscated by the partisanship for sure.

In part because the bar's not that high (1969). But he's smart, funny, and I think one of the most moderate presidents ever.

I think is only fault has been playing some things close to the vest; but his Republican counterparts probably helped made it happen that way--- but I always felt he was smart enough to work around that.

46132. iiibbb - 1/13/2016 8:20:06 PM

Man.... I wish 20% of this population would just choke to death right now.

46133. judithathome - 1/13/2016 8:44:39 PM

And they would, if they had to eat their own words...and likely, not have the health care to help themselves from doing so.

46134. winstonsmith - 1/14/2016 2:40:23 AM

Yes, I also agree. Best president of my lifetime. Smart, honest, calm, pragmatic. No sex scandals. Has the nicest family. He is just the best.

46135. arkymalarky - 1/14/2016 4:46:02 AM

I love the way whatever Michelle Obama wears 10 of them people run out and get it.

46136. arkymalarky - 1/14/2016 4:46:35 AM

I love the way whatever Michelle Obama wears to an event people run out and get.

46137. arkymalarky - 1/14/2016 4:47:33 AM

I wonder if I'm just too old to learn to enunciate. Or to overcome my southern accent in voice to text.

46138. judithathome - 1/14/2016 7:56:07 PM

Hey...I understood it just fine...but then, I'm from the next state over....

46139. Ms. No - 1/15/2016 9:05:27 PM

I love how so much of what she wears to an event people CAN run out and buy because it's available to non-millionaires.
