mikales,

Got your email about the error message and replied --- twice. The first time to say I didn't know what it meant and the second time to say "Oh, yeah, I do. Ignore it."

Welcome to the Mote.

Ulgine,

Congrats on the new do. I need to go and get mine cut but just haven't felt motivated. Also, my hair is at one of those points when it's just really, really good. When I first got it cut it was really shorter than I'd wanted it and kind of un-fun to deal with. The growing out process has been quite good, though. I'd better go in and get it trimmed up again or it'll just devolved into a mass of split ends.

I am new here, and I happened to notice a link on the right to "on-line conversions". I tremulously clicked on it thinking that I was about to be asked to take Jesus into my heart!

Summer,

We have a man for that sort of thing but he's not available at the moment. Off in Africa bothering the innocent indiginous with right-wing theology.

10873. Macnas - 8/16/2004 1:27:34 AM

Which mainly consists of encouraging them to wear trousers.

See yez tomorrow.

10874. The Summer Woman - 8/16/2004 1:57:47 AM

Hahaha - Has anyone read "The Towers of Trebizond"?

10875. Magoseph - 8/16/2004 4:09:28 AM

I haven't read it, Summer, but I'm interested now.
The Towers of Trebizond
Thanks for mentioning it.

10876. PelleNilsson - 8/16/2004 4:44:46 AM

Quiz for non-Googlers.

Where is Trebizond? Did it/does it have any significance?

10877. Jenerator - 8/16/2004 5:17:24 AM

Summer,

Don't listen to Jay. The guy he mentioned isn't bothering innocents in Africa, he's instructing willing students at a seminary in Africa. Big difference.

10878. Jenerator - 8/16/2004 5:17:45 AM

Hi Arky!

10879. Jenerator - 8/16/2004 5:21:47 AM

Mikales,

Come out, come out wherever you are.

Look what I found.

10880. mikales - 8/16/2004 6:16:47 AM

Nice Jen, but look at the price! I'm not
i that
big on slain deer and unsalted potatoes and grog.

10881. arkymalarky - 8/16/2004 8:12:39 AM

Hey Jen! Are you teaching this year?

I think I heard it all today. A colleague who lives at least as far out in the boonies as I do said they acquired a stray pig, who wandered into the yard and has stayed all summer. They really like it and named it Porky and it grunts when you talk to it and when it wants food.

But she said it's getting too big and they're going to eat it. I asked, and she was not kidding. I guess that's the breaks when a pig strays into the yard of a biology teacher.

10882. judithathome - 8/16/2004 8:25:56 AM

NEVER name a pet you intend to eat! It's just not right.

10883. arkymalarky - 8/16/2004 8:28:50 AM

I agree. They've shown animals at state and county fairs for years, especially lambs and sheep, and I get the feeling they do it all the time. Of course they sell them to be slaughtered, but still.

10886. alistairconnor - 8/16/2004 6:18:18 PM

Pelle : Trebizond is now known as Trabzon or some such. They have a reasonable football team. It's a Turkish Black Sea port. It was probably founded by the viking Norsepersons, is that the answer you want?

10887. iiibbb - 8/16/2004 10:09:14 PM

My friends sure surprised me yesterday. I went in the back door of my house yesterday when I got home, so I didn't find the package until 11pm, but there it was. I open the package and there is a brand new GPS unit and card. They all bought me this thing for graduation and it totally generous and totally unexpected.

Although I've always wanted one, it's not something I would typically buy myself becuase they are a little pricey for the amount of use they'd get. However, even if I were to buy one, this one is loads nicer than the one I would've gotten.

This gift is exceptionally generous of them. I think a lot of these people but I'd never expect them to do something like this... so I am still a bit floored.

10888. iiibbb - 8/16/2004 10:11:45 PM

... I mean to say that I think a lot of these people... and we've always done things for each other... and looked out for each other... but I can't think of a time where we've ever been this generous in terms of a one-time gift from the group to a member...

...not like it's expected of the group.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

10889. Macnas - 8/16/2004 10:12:46 PM

Always nice to get gifts. Throw a barbecue for everyone.

10890. iiibbb - 8/16/2004 10:53:26 PM

Alas, we are all cast to the 4-winds now, so that's a bit hard... but you've given me another idea.

It's a bit wierd that I've known most of these people (except the children) a minimum of 15 years. Time sure flies. I met them all through my caving club and they've been my core group for all this time no matter where I've lived.
