NEVER name a pet you intend to eat! It's just not right.

I agree. They've shown animals at state and county fairs for years, especially lambs and sheep, and I get the feeling they do it all the time. Of course they sell them to be slaughtered, but still.

Pelle : Trebizond is now known as Trabzon or some such. They have a reasonable football team. It's a Turkish Black Sea port. It was probably founded by the viking Norsepersons, is that the answer you want?

My friends sure surprised me yesterday. I went in the back door of my house yesterday when I got home, so I didn't find the package until 11pm, but there it was. I open the package and there is a brand new GPS unit and card. They all bought me this thing for graduation and it totally generous and totally unexpected.

Although I've always wanted one, it's not something I would typically buy myself becuase they are a little pricey for the amount of use they'd get. However, even if I were to buy one, this one is loads nicer than the one I would've gotten.

This gift is exceptionally generous of them. I think a lot of these people but I'd never expect them to do something like this... so I am still a bit floored.

... I mean to say that I think a lot of these people... and we've always done things for each other... and looked out for each other... but I can't think of a time where we've ever been this generous in terms of a one-time gift from the group to a member...

...not like it's expected of the group.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

Always nice to get gifts. Throw a barbecue for everyone.

10890. iiibbb - 8/16/2004 10:53:26 PM

Alas, we are all cast to the 4-winds now, so that's a bit hard... but you've given me another idea.

It's a bit wierd that I've known most of these people (except the children) a minimum of 15 years. Time sure flies. I met them all through my caving club and they've been my core group for all this time no matter where I've lived.

10891. alistairconnor - 8/16/2004 11:09:24 PM

hmmm... is this a gift with a message?

You have a tendency to get lost?

Next time you get stuck down a pothole, you'll be really really glad to have that GPS, you'll know exactly where you are.

Actually... that's another reason I've never bought one. They're not a real replacement for a map and compass (which also don't need batteries).

I don't really get lost in the woods... my sense of direction is pretty well tuned due to work.

This thing is going to be cool on road trips for navigating though, because it can keep up with things like average speeds, ETA's etc.

It will also be good for bypassing traffic jams in unfamiliar areas. The maps in it are very detailed.

10893. Jenerator - 8/17/2004 1:47:03 AM

The dude obsessed with farts is weird.

10894. Jenerator - 8/17/2004 1:48:09 AM

Arky,

I am teaching this year. They gave me another class though, so I'm up to 5 preps now.

As for a pet pig, I don't think I could eat it after having loved it. I'm with Judith. What did you say to the person?

10895. tmesis - 8/17/2004 3:06:28 AM

What is Magoseph's native language? I first thought Mags was a male, native English speaker living abroad somewhere. I believe I was wrong on all counts.

Jenerator, farts are funny.

No, I was rather thinking of the odd and little known entity the Empire of Trebizond which emerged after the Crusaders sacked Constantinople in 1204 and survived until 1461.

That Trebizond should have been founded by Vikings is news to. I doubt that enough Vikings were present on the Black sea at any given time to found anything. But a share in the Viking glory is sought by many ...

10897. PelleNilsson - 8/17/2004 3:19:08 AM

Yes, tmesis, but we once had a poster here who excelled in vivid descriptions of his own flatulence so your feeble efforts leave us cold.

10898. robertjayb - 8/17/2004 3:48:51 AM

The old rustler...Is he posting anywhere these days?

10899. PelleNilsson - 8/17/2004 3:52:14 AM

Yes, in CalGal's place.

10900. Jenerator - 8/17/2004 4:59:30 AM

I miss Rustler Pike.

10901. Wombat - 8/17/2004 5:06:49 AM

His post-marital adventures were certainly something. What has become of my old pal Concerned?

10902. Magoseph - 8/17/2004 5:38:56 AM

tmesis, I am a naturalized French-born and raised woman. I am pleased that you post in the Mote, but as far as this thread is concerned, I have concluded that your posts regarding internal digestive affairs are more suitably displayed in the Inferno.

I have deleted posts 10884 and 10885.

There is a difference between being funny and being long-winded.
