Well, hi there, Marshame...long time no read!

What Res has isn't my take on a mullet...it's just long hair. As you know, I live in Fort Worth and see lots of NASCAR aficionados so I know whereof I speak.

I'm going later this afternoon with a friend to a new gift shop/tearoom set-up near my home to see about renting a small space to sell some of my antiques. Trying not to get too excited about it but we'll see what they have to offer in the way of rents.

One good thing about this place as opposed to a mall is that I wouldn't have to work there at all, just keep my shelves stocked. All you do is pay rent and the owner takes care of the transactions and sends you a check.

judithathome - Do you have wonderful antiques? I can't seem to part even with the ones I do not like. I am punished by the clutter for my sins.

11067. judithathome - 8/20/2004 4:03:32 AM

These are some I had left over from my former business. We have a lot of stuff in our home but I'm holding on to most of it until we are forced by age or infirmity to sell them and move to the "home".

The things I will take to this place for selling are mostly framed old photographs and "smalls"...porcelain objects and odds and ends. I like off-beat things, mostly.

I will have to avoid your stall then. I have a penchant for oddities and porcelaine also. And when i get them home, I ignore them and let them gather dust.

11069. The Summer Woman - 8/20/2004 4:19:34 AM

Is Mr. Pelle the host of the hosts here?

11070. judithathome - 8/20/2004 4:27:41 AM

Yes, dust is the final punishment of the collector. I call it "patina", however.

Pelle is one of the top dogs...MsNo and Arky are the other two and Wabbit is in a class all her own.

11071. The Summer Woman - 8/20/2004 4:35:17 AM

Wabbit is a woman!

11072. Ms. No - 8/20/2004 4:38:03 AM

And what a woman she is!

11073. The Summer Woman - 8/20/2004 4:39:30 AM

Okay. But I must address this to Mr. Pelle.

Mr. Pelle -

You complained that "The Summer Woman" was too awkward for purposes of addressing me. I asked if you might suggest something shorter, and you came up with "Summer". I don't want to hurt your feelings, but would it be okay if I used "sukey" instead? It's shorter than "Summer".

p.s. And I did not cheat and google the answers to your quiz!

11074. The Summer Woman - 8/20/2004 4:40:13 AM

I must get to know ms. no and Wabbit better...

11075. judithathome - 8/20/2004 4:41:02 AM

Oh wow! Are you Suks? Too cool, even if you're not!

11076. The Summer Woman - 8/20/2004 4:42:08 AM

I had to confess.

11077. judithathome - 8/20/2004 4:44:04 AM

I knew I liked talking to you! ha!

11078. PelleNilsson - 8/20/2004 5:55:07 AM

Sukey!! Dear me. In retrospect I realize I should have recognized your style, but I hadn't expected to see you here. You are very welcome, indeed.

11079. The Summer Woman - 8/20/2004 6:12:05 AM

Thank you, Pelle - and I confess I had to google the date on the Napolean one.

I hope that my style is not so "fixed".

11080. judithathome - 8/20/2004 6:28:14 AM

Just got back from the gift shop/tearoom and was that ever a bust. The owner had the place packed with stuff, no place for anyone to rent space, and her things were so expensive, it was just a joke. She had much of the same sorts of things I have but they were outrageously priced and very mis-labelled...one spur was allegedly an infantry spur from the "early 1900s" and it was so obviously a copy from Mexico. Not good.

If you aren't positive of the provenance, be careful how you tag it. People who know will think you're an idiot. And you will be.

11081. SnowOwl - 8/20/2004 6:42:38 AM

That's a bit of a bummer, Judith. The place sounded as though it had great possibilities.

We've often talked about selling our place and getting something smaller but if we did I'd have to be ruthless in getting rid of a lot of stuff I've acquired over the years, and since most of it has particular memories tied up with it, I'd find it very difficult to let any of it go.

11082. judithathome - 8/20/2004 6:49:42 AM

Some days, I feel like I could let it all go and never miss it, just start all over again. I try to imagine what it would be like if a fire destroyed everything and we had to move and begin again.

It doesn't upset me as much as I once thought it would. Of course, that's thinking about it...I'm sure I'd be devastated if it really ever happened.

11083. anomie - 8/20/2004 7:53:28 AM

Sorry about about your business prospect, Judith. But, you get to keep the stuff longer now.

I think you would have loved the "car boot" sales in the UK. Stuff is "old" there at about 150 years. Ha!
