Had a Reuben and fries for lunch. I still hold my heuristic is true about Reubens -- if a place has a good Reuben, it's a good place to eat in the round.

I could naver take to kidneys though, always tasted of piss no matter what you did with them.

Is a sparkling chablis preferred with this dish? If prepared with sour wine, would you call it 'Old piss and vinegar'?

11664. Macnas - 10/14/2004 9:27:22 AM

Ha!

I don't know what you could have with kidneys that would make them taste any better, vinegar might mask the taste at that.

But the one thing I cannot eat at all, offal wise, is tripe.

Oooh I nearly missed this one!

There is no such thing as a sparkling Chablis. (well, perhaps in New England, but then they probably make it out of dandelion roots.) But thanks for playing!

With kidneys, I might recommend a Cornas or a red Hermitage. Something northern Rhone in any case.

11667. Macnas - 10/14/2004 12:59:54 PM

alistair, I'm laughing. For an hippy you are quite the wine snob.

11668. PsychProf - 10/14/2004 1:08:45 PM

Hippy's like Boones Farm...Connor is a wannabe.

Congrats, Wonkers, to you, the family, and your lucky son!

I was not watching the debate last night. Instead I chose to read people--or to listen to people--who were watching it. Of course, these are people I know and whose opinion I respect. I did that by using the telephone, on-line forums, and instant messengers. I believe that I obtained a better picture of the way the debate was going than when I watched by myself. I think that approach removed the emotion of the whole affair for me and as a result, I was able to be significantly more objective in my observations.

11671. Magoseph - 10/14/2004 8:07:28 PM

So says Flexy the Expert, I should add.

11672. Magoseph - 10/14/2004 8:31:43 PM

Another reason why I didn’t watch the debate is that it is just too hard to be in the same room with Flexy. His comments and outbursts of glee are not welcome. To tell the truth, I can't stand it when someone is being humiliated publicly. Never mind if I dislike intensely the person, I don't like to see that.

11673. angel-five - 10/14/2004 11:11:18 PM

You mean 'northern Rhone' isn't a variety of Boone's?

11674. Ms. No - 10/15/2004 12:49:30 AM

Aw, come on! You mean nobody rides the Night Train anymore?

11675. wonkers2 - 10/15/2004 1:38:33 AM

Thanks, Judith and everyone. We are very happy. Maybe we'll have grandchildren, after all, one of these days.

11676. Ulgine Barrows - 10/15/2004 4:42:42 AM

tastes like piss, I know this well.

My son can't aim, and I aim to make him clean the toilet tomorrow.

11677. Ulgine Barrows - 10/15/2004 4:44:29 AM

And I hope he brings home some good friends to us in our dotage.

I liked reading about your kids marrying.

11678. wonkers2 - 10/15/2004 4:44:57 AM

Paint a fly in the center of the bowl. Or a bullseye.

11679. Ulgine Barrows - 10/15/2004 4:51:51 AM

Hmm, we had some paper targets when he was 4 to 5.

I think a 10-yr-old who can't aim is fighting about something else.

I'll go into the old folks home fighting, you know.

Re. 11665 -

You don't get it, do you, AC?

11681. concerned - 10/15/2004 6:26:16 AM

Hmmm. Who to believe? These french wine growers or AC?
