Advise me:

At some point I would like to start a discussion about a post-Castro Cuba. I think it is now likely that Castro will die or otherwise stop ruling Cuba sometime in the next four years. What will/should the Bush administration do?

My question: is this more of an International issue or an American Politics issue?

11920. Magoseph - 11/4/2004 8:39:35 PM

I would say that it is more of an International issue. However, Pelle, Wabbit, Ms. No, or Arky may give you better advice, Elliott.

11921. ElliottRW - 11/4/2004 8:49:35 PM

Thanks, Mags. I'll go ahead and pose the question in International and see if anyone wants to chat about it.

11922. Ms. No - 11/4/2004 8:59:32 PM

Elliot,

I think it's worthy of it's own thread, honestly. Would you be willing to host?

11923. ElliottRW - 11/4/2004 10:36:19 PM

Ms. No,

Thanks for your support. Also, I am willing to host, provided there is significant interest.

How has this worked in the past? Do threads usually start from scratch or spin off?

Anyway, I posted in International to get things going. We'll see how things develop.

Thanks, guys...that armoire is about 75 years old. I traded a plain French one for it about 11 years ago, when we moved here to this house. My houseguest was practicing with his new digital camera the other day and downloaded it for me.

11925. Ms. No - 11/5/2004 1:50:40 AM

Elliot,

We can start it from scratch. I'll set it up tomorrow morning unless one of the other Moderators gets a chance to do it before then.

If you'll email me an addy for you at the Moderator Address I can reply with links and instructions and the like.

11926. ElliottRW - 11/5/2004 2:26:13 AM

Ms. No,

I have sent my address to the moderator address. While I'm uncertain that the topic has much traction here, I'm willing to give it a go.

11927. arkymalarky - 11/5/2004 4:17:22 AM

If it doesn't, maybe you could expand it to discuss Latinos in the US and Latin America in general. Evidently Latinos had quite an impact on the election.

For those of you who enjoyed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, I suggest
The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon.

Usually I just tear into a book; I had to stop at page 3 for this one.

I hope the ending is as good as it's auspicious beginning.

Oh, and my neighborhood grocery is going out of business, thanks WalMart. I suppose I will be sucked into those never-ending aisles after all. Wallheads, assimilate.

Hi, everyone!
...It took me seven times to figure out my password, but it came back to me on what was to be my last attempt.

That image in post 11911 conjures up some fond memories of dusting. Yes, dusting. :)

Yep, I finally got around to plucking down the money for a new G-5 Imac, so I'll try to stop by more often, although probably not as often as I'd like. I just stopped by at Random a second ago to give Ozzie a belated, but much deserved congratulations on his Bosox taking the World Championship.

Arky -- I still owe you a phone call just to touch base. I haven't forgotten. I'm just a laggard. How's life ? And, yes, I'm attributing that tiny speck of blue on that Arkansas red map as the Arkymalarky domicile.

Judith -- Is there such a thing as a "plain French armoire" ? How are you and Keoni ?

Hey,Christine! Are you still residing in that cool retro 1950s neighborhood ?

Hello to anyone else I missed! )

Hello. Hello. I'm at a place called vertiGO ... Got to GO for now in other words. See y'all later.

11931. arkymalarky - 11/5/2004 10:00:48 AM

Hey Frank! I'm so glad you're communicado here again. Please make as much time for us as you can, and after January/February I should be able to be here more.

I really look forward to hearing from you. Call any time.

Up with a migraine right now. And for some reason there's been a lot of traffic by our house for it to be 2:00am on an empty country road.

I'm proud that my part of the state (southwest) went for Kerry.

11932. Frankster - 11/5/2004 10:18:38 AM

Arky !

ARKY !!!

(Rhetorical) What are you doing up, woman ?! I was just about to sign off for the evening and there you were. :)

I'm so sorry about your migraine. I've been having headaches of late and my doctor attributed it to the lack of glasses. I got glasses, and poof, headaches gone. I didn't realize my left eye was doing all the work.

Yes, this new Imac is nice, but I really have to learn System 10.3 in order to get my money's worth. After spending $1800.00, I found out that I still need more ram. Can you believe that ? Ouch!

Yikes, I hope there isn't anything nefarious going on there with all that late night traffic.

I hope you feel better. Take care,

Frank

Hey! I was checking out Guerilla News Network

Interesting stuff there.

I'll probably be able to get back to sleep in a bit. I'm going on a field trip tomorrow anyway, so I won't have to try to teach, at least. And it will be Friday, thankfully. It's been a rough week for Liberal Democrats.

11934. Frankster - 11/5/2004 10:28:03 AM

You just won't let go to sleep, will you, woman ? I'll check out your link before I hit the sack.

It's been a rough four years for Liberal Democrats.

Where ya going on this trip ?

11935. arkymalarky - 11/5/2004 10:30:26 AM

I'll try to fall asleep with a heating pad on high under my pillowcase. That's how I do it when they won't go away.

We're taking a group to a historical Civil War presentation for the day. It should be fun, if this headache is gone by then.

11936. Frankster - 11/5/2004 10:31:06 AM

By the way, I'll pass along my homepage since you provided me with a link.

http://www.commondreams.org/

It's not extreme, but I have those sites bookmarked too.

11937. Frankster - 11/5/2004 10:33:47 AM

You're too nice to get headaches, Arky. I hope yours goes away soon.

Yes, it sounds like fun.

Oh, shoot. I missed my favorite sitcom, "Just Shoot Me".

11938. arkymalarky - 11/5/2004 10:34:39 AM

Hey, that's a good one! I'll bookmark it.

When you do get a chance to call I'll give you my website url for the stuff we've been doing here. Not much going on at the moment, but it's about to kick back up.

Well, I guess I'd better try that heating pad or I'm going to be a zombie tomorrow.

It's so WONDERFUL to finally "see" you!
