Last time I was over at the dog park in Encino I was adopted by a shar-pei/chow mix puppy. He came over to me and stood right between my feet and growled menacingly at every person and dog that approached me --- including my own. It was hysterical. He just took one look at me, abandoned his people and came to stake his claim.

Good thing he was still just little, but man, was he fierce!

I had to stop wearing my Eau de Chein perfume after that. Lord only knows what provoked such instant devotion.

My son complains that Maggie is a handful, but in the next sentence, he tells me how cute she is when she runs into things because while she is prancing around she has her eyes on him. The dog his wife took with her was his dog before they married. It is good for him that he has Maggie with him.

We are going away for a couple of days. Nothing fancy, just to break the monotony of autumn. See you Sunday.

12044. Magoseph - 11/11/2004 10:30:08 PM

Eau de Chein?, Ms. No, doesn't that sound Chinese?

12045. Magoseph - 11/11/2004 10:48:51 PM

Have a wonderful time, Pelle!

12046. Ms. No - 11/11/2004 11:22:16 PM

Well, Shar-peis are Chinese Dogs, right?

12047. Magoseph - 11/11/2004 11:29:24 PM

Right, that's my point, Ms. No, the 'shar-pei/chow mix puppy' was in love with you. I got it.

12048. Ms. No - 11/12/2004 12:27:53 AM

ah, puppy-love!

12049. arkymalarky - 11/12/2004 1:01:44 AM

Cute doggie!

Have a good time, Pelle.

I hit a deer today. Or actually, it hit me. I was pretty much "in town" on the way to work and wasn't expecting to see a deer and it ran right out and hit the front side of my car. It didn't do much damage--loosened the headlights and took some off the grill. The headlights still work for the moment, anyway.

First thing the kids wanted to know was whether it was a buck. I told them I didn't get to count points. All I saw was a huge torso.

Well. This is fun, some of us online, but not overwhelming.

I have to sleep now, but I want to stay up and watch and talk. My aunt is sick and I have to help her. I wish I were callous. I'd rather not help. Nothing is good enough for her.

I'm afraid I'll be like her, when I'm older.

She was the most fun aunt when I was growing up. What turns a person to the bitter? We'll never know.

But off I go.

12051. alistairconnor - 11/12/2004 11:52:40 AM

That's hard, Ulgine.
A dutiful niece. I like that.

12052. Magoseph - 11/12/2004 5:14:54 PM

Hello? Hello? Anybody there? Echo, Echo, Echo...

12053. Macnas - 11/12/2004 5:19:45 PM

Eh up Mago.

12054. Magoseph - 11/12/2004 5:23:28 PM

Hey, Mac, any interesting plans for the weekend?

12055. Macnas - 11/12/2004 5:35:36 PM

Going to survey a site on Saturday, might try and go shooting on Sunday, other than that, not a thing.

12056. PsychProf - 11/12/2004 9:47:32 PM

Illness can make any of us bitter.

12057. Magoseph - 11/12/2004 10:49:30 PM

Petersen verdict coming up in 15 minutes.

12058. ElliottRW - 11/12/2004 10:59:28 PM

PsychProf,

I have been meaning to ask you a technical question. Below is a rather remarkable quote from Joseph A. Califano, Jr.:

Six years of research at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University reveals that a child who gets through age 21 without smoking, using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol is virtually certain never to do so.

What I was wondering is if this has been corroborated? Does it match up well with your knowlege?

Actually, I'm open to input from anyone.

12059. ElliottRW - 11/13/2004 1:21:58 AM

Ok, guess I missed PP.

Another question: my thread (M.D.) appears to be turning into "Elliott's Blog". Which, I have to admit, is a bit discouraging. Any tips?

Judith's letter published today:
Fort Worth Star-Telegram

If you want to defend marriage in this country, why not amend the Constitution to disallow divorce, cheating and lying about where you've been all night?

It seems to me that this would do a good job of stopping heretics and Christians from demeaning the holy status of marriage.

Atheists aren't the only ones who run around on their spouses, no matter what the holier-than-thous would have us believe.
