Cute doggie!

Have a good time, Pelle.

I hit a deer today. Or actually, it hit me. I was pretty much "in town" on the way to work and wasn't expecting to see a deer and it ran right out and hit the front side of my car. It didn't do much damage--loosened the headlights and took some off the grill. The headlights still work for the moment, anyway.

First thing the kids wanted to know was whether it was a buck. I told them I didn't get to count points. All I saw was a huge torso.

Well. This is fun, some of us online, but not overwhelming.

I have to sleep now, but I want to stay up and watch and talk. My aunt is sick and I have to help her. I wish I were callous. I'd rather not help. Nothing is good enough for her.

I'm afraid I'll be like her, when I'm older.

She was the most fun aunt when I was growing up. What turns a person to the bitter? We'll never know.

But off I go.

That's hard, Ulgine.
A dutiful niece. I like that.

Hello? Hello? Anybody there? Echo, Echo, Echo...

12053. Macnas - 11/12/2004 5:19:45 PM

Eh up Mago.

12054. Magoseph - 11/12/2004 5:23:28 PM

Hey, Mac, any interesting plans for the weekend?

12055. Macnas - 11/12/2004 5:35:36 PM

Going to survey a site on Saturday, might try and go shooting on Sunday, other than that, not a thing.

12056. PsychProf - 11/12/2004 9:47:32 PM

Illness can make any of us bitter.

12057. Magoseph - 11/12/2004 10:49:30 PM

Petersen verdict coming up in 15 minutes.

12058. ElliottRW - 11/12/2004 10:59:28 PM

PsychProf,

I have been meaning to ask you a technical question. Below is a rather remarkable quote from Joseph A. Califano, Jr.:

Six years of research at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University reveals that a child who gets through age 21 without smoking, using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol is virtually certain never to do so.

What I was wondering is if this has been corroborated? Does it match up well with your knowlege?

Actually, I'm open to input from anyone.

12059. ElliottRW - 11/13/2004 1:21:58 AM

Ok, guess I missed PP.

Another question: my thread (M.D.) appears to be turning into "Elliott's Blog". Which, I have to admit, is a bit discouraging. Any tips?

Judith's letter published today:
Fort Worth Star-Telegram

If you want to defend marriage in this country, why not amend the Constitution to disallow divorce, cheating and lying about where you've been all night?

It seems to me that this would do a good job of stopping heretics and Christians from demeaning the holy status of marriage.

Atheists aren't the only ones who run around on their spouses, no matter what the holier-than-thous would have us believe.

Judith Spencer, Westworth Village

Elliot...absolutely. Age is a significant risk factor for long term abuse. However...since it is a correlation, wer should always consider third variables...

12062. judithathome - 11/14/2004 6:57:49 PM

Thanks, Magos...for some bizarre reason, I can no longer access that paper on-line. Not by my bookmark, not by google, not even when someone sends me their link. It's like my computer refuses to go to it.

Luckily, I can still send letters to the actual paper here in town.

12063. judithathome - 11/14/2004 6:59:42 PM

Naturally, now that I have a few minutes to be on-line, no one is here and my name is last poster in four or five threads on the front page of the Mote. I hate that!

12064. Magoseph - 11/14/2004 7:09:03 PM

Well, I'm here lurking, lady. What's new with you today?

12065. wonkers2 - 11/14/2004 7:42:57 PM

According to today's paper, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country. And many of the red states the highest.

12066. wonkers2 - 11/14/2004 7:46:11 PM

Good letter, Judith!

12067. judithathome - 11/14/2004 7:46:59 PM

That's because the red states marriages get such early starts...teens, and younger.

12068. judithathome - 11/14/2004 7:48:35 PM

Thanks, Wonkers...some yahoo state rep is putting forward a bill to amend the constitution...defense of marriage, that sort of BS. It really fried me and I just popped it off to editor.
