Illness can make any of us bitter.

Petersen verdict coming up in 15 minutes.

PsychProf,

I have been meaning to ask you a technical question. Below is a rather remarkable quote from Joseph A. Califano, Jr.:

Six years of research at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University reveals that a child who gets through age 21 without smoking, using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol is virtually certain never to do so.

What I was wondering is if this has been corroborated? Does it match up well with your knowlege?

Actually, I'm open to input from anyone.

12059. ElliottRW - 11/13/2004 1:21:58 AM

Ok, guess I missed PP.

Another question: my thread (M.D.) appears to be turning into "Elliott's Blog". Which, I have to admit, is a bit discouraging. Any tips?

Judith's letter published today:
Fort Worth Star-Telegram

If you want to defend marriage in this country, why not amend the Constitution to disallow divorce, cheating and lying about where you've been all night?

It seems to me that this would do a good job of stopping heretics and Christians from demeaning the holy status of marriage.

Atheists aren't the only ones who run around on their spouses, no matter what the holier-than-thous would have us believe.

Elliot...absolutely. Age is a significant risk factor for long term abuse. However...since it is a correlation, wer should always consider third variables...

12062. judithathome - 11/14/2004 6:57:49 PM

Thanks, Magos...for some bizarre reason, I can no longer access that paper on-line. Not by my bookmark, not by google, not even when someone sends me their link. It's like my computer refuses to go to it.

Luckily, I can still send letters to the actual paper here in town.

12063. judithathome - 11/14/2004 6:59:42 PM

Naturally, now that I have a few minutes to be on-line, no one is here and my name is last poster in four or five threads on the front page of the Mote. I hate that!

12064. Magoseph - 11/14/2004 7:09:03 PM

Well, I'm here lurking, lady. What's new with you today?

12065. wonkers2 - 11/14/2004 7:42:57 PM

According to today's paper, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country. And many of the red states the highest.

12066. wonkers2 - 11/14/2004 7:46:11 PM

Good letter, Judith!

12067. judithathome - 11/14/2004 7:46:59 PM

That's because the red states marriages get such early starts...teens, and younger.

12068. judithathome - 11/14/2004 7:48:35 PM

Thanks, Wonkers...some yahoo state rep is putting forward a bill to amend the constitution...defense of marriage, that sort of BS. It really fried me and I just popped it off to editor.

12069. judithathome - 11/14/2004 7:53:59 PM

Magos, it's very cold and rainy here today and we're just staying home for the day. Popi and Simon are re-packing their luggage, trying to make more room so they can buy a few more things to take back to Greece. They leave on Tuesday.

Tonight we are having dinner with my son at an Italian restaurant near his home and afterward, we're going over to see his kitchen and the progress of his remodelling the master bathroom. He is also re-doing the third bedroom. He's very talented in construction...he's worked in almost every aspect of house building from the roof to the foundation since he was a teenager. He had the cabinets done for his kitchen...all hickory wood, inside and out...but he did the rest of the work himself. Even tiling the floor.

12070. alistairConnor - 11/14/2004 8:02:30 PM

for some bizarre reason, I can no longer access that paper on-line.

Clearly, you've been blackballed, Judith.

12071. judithathome - 11/14/2004 8:05:14 PM

Yes, I think that's true...and yesterday, I found I was blackballed from World Crossing, too.

I think someone is trying to tell me something. Maybe Kuligin DOES have a direct line, after all. (JOKE JOKE JOKE, Kuli...)

12072. Magoseph - 11/15/2004 4:56:26 PM

So they leave on Tuesday, Judsie? It was such a long visit that maybe you will be happy now to find yourselves alone. I remember friend and in-law visits of the past and how delighted we were when they finally ended.

Nowadays, we have no one coming to this house. If they want to see us, we are willing to oblige, providing we visit them on their turf or rent for them nice rooms in the best motel in town. In either case, a couple of days visiting or receiving people, that is enough for us.

12073. Magoseph - 11/15/2004 5:15:10 PM

Cute couple.

Good morning. Don't miss Pelle's latest pictures in Escapes.

It will be over 60 degrees here today, sunny and no wind, great for walking to town. See you later.

Hey, Mac, how are you?
