One thing I've noticed when travelling is that people in countries overseas keep their houses at a much higher temperature than is the norm here. When we were in Sweden, even in mid-winter, I had to keep nipping outside to cool off.

There was a survey done quite recently which concluded that NZers have the temperature inside their houses too low for health.

I think it's because the early settlers here thought they had arrived in a tropical paradise and so built accordingly.

Hello, Klaus. Judsie, what happened to your post # 1247? I saw it, but then it was gone.

iiibbb, your link didn't take.

12432. Jenerator - 12/1/2004 8:24:30 PM

Klaus is soooo cute!

12433. Magoseph - 12/1/2004 8:24:32 PM

I mean #12427.

SnowOwl,

That is an interesting observation. We have the heater at home set on 70 degrees. When I am up and moving around it feels good (we have various drafts in the house), but when I am sleeping, I roast alive because it is hot.

I keep my house around 67° to 69° in winter because I can't stand breathing in hot air. I hate airless places and when Keoni and I first moved in together, I kept the bedroom window open a little so I would have air...we lived in an apartment that was positively a sealed box.

When we moved to Maine, he drew the line at the open window at night because frequently, there would be snow on the sill next morning. Now he would have a cow if I opened the windows at night in winter, mainly because our bed is right in front of them.

He seems to have become used to me keeping a small fan on at night, though. I think he likes the "white noise" it makes but I am used to the air it circulates. I told him last night I might get him an "ambient noise" machine that plays the sound of the surf but he claims he likes the little fan.

#12427.

A mistaken attempt at the Klaus picture...I got the blue screen so was surprised to see what happened, myself!

12437. judithathome - 12/1/2004 8:33:26 PM

Thanks, Jen...he has a wonderfully happy personality, too. Getting a little grumpy in his old age but still the sweetheart, nonetheless.

12438. thoughtful - 12/1/2004 8:51:55 PM

nice pooch there, J! Looks incredibly loving and friendly.

12439. judithathome - 12/1/2004 9:11:21 PM

He is...he even smiles at newcomers! Ask MsNo.

12440. iiibbb - 12/1/2004 9:17:38 PM

The snowman link again... it's the dance at the end that's worth it.

Geez..try this

12442. Magoseph - 12/1/2004 11:41:44 PM

Ok, I tried it, iiibbb, and got scared for my pains, naughty you.

12443. iiibbb - 12/2/2004 12:11:04 AM

Christmas scares you?

12444. iiibbb - 12/2/2004 12:14:42 AM

Certainly gets you in the spirit doesn't it?

12445. Ms. No - 12/2/2004 12:26:34 AM

Klaus is a sweetie-pie! I think he actually even remembers me when I visit.

12446. arkymalarky - 12/2/2004 1:54:31 AM

Awwwww, Klaus! Great picture!

Bob can't sleep without fan noise. We even pack one when we travel. We keep it about 68F at night and 72-74 during the day. I used to open windows occasionally but I was told never ever to open them when I went to the allergist this summer, and so far I haven't. Early spring he may just have to shove that advice in his ear.

12447. Magoseph - 12/2/2004 2:21:25 AM

Christmas scares you?

Let's say that I have had enough of the following: Christmas cards, Christmas trees, Christmas parties, Christmas movies, Christmas shopping, and Christmas shoppers. Call me Scroogette.

12448. iiibbb - 12/2/2004 2:23:34 AM

Well... it was the perfect card then...

12449. SnowOwl - 12/2/2004 8:10:15 AM

Heavens, Jen. My house isn't as warm as that even in mid-summer on most days. You'd have to have the heating on all the time if you lived here!
