It's very changeable right now, but when the wind starts gusting it is all but impossible to go outside. Constant rain though, as if it isn't miserable enough.

It is interesting, Macnas, that you express wind speed in miles per hour. One is very conservative when it comes to units of measure. I got a "weather station" for Christmas. It give the air pressure in hectoPascal but I have to mentally translate to mm Hg to understand.

By the way, most countries measure wind speed in miles per hour or km per hour. These figures are meaningless to me because here we use meter per second. I don't really know if this an example of Swedish eccentricity or if it is another example of us using an international standard that everybody else ignores, such as today's date 05-01-11.

You got a weather station for Christmas?

Oh Pelle, that says more about you than anything else I could come up with!

HectoPascal? I've never seen that used anywhere. But no, I tell a lie, the weather station we use here on site, a Vaisala that I installed many years ago measures barometric pressure in hPa. And wind speed in mph if I recall.

International standards seem to be applied on an "as suits" basis. It is only now, on the 20th of this month actually, that we are changing our road speed signs to km per hour.

Hello, Pelle, Mac and everyone. I tried to walk to town, but the wind was so biting, I came back--I need a mask and I'm going to make one because a few more days staying in will surely get me where I don’t want to be.

13157. Macnas - 1/11/2005 4:33:08 PM

A mask eh? Wouldn't a scarve do the trick?

13158. thoughtful - 1/11/2005 4:39:53 PM

Hooray! the sunrise has finally started getting earlier.
Sun rose at 7:17 am.

13159. PelleNilsson - 1/11/2005 6:04:27 PM

Here is a chic one.

13160. alistairconnor - 1/11/2005 6:10:37 PM

It is only now, on the 20th of this month actually, that we are changing our road speed signs to km per hour.

Expect a sudden increase in accidents...
"Hey, the sign says I can do 50 here!"

13161. Macnas - 1/11/2005 6:39:20 PM

Hadn't thought of that. You're probably right.

13162. Macnas - 1/11/2005 6:49:24 PM

I didn't notice Pelle's Aran Island terrorist before, looks itchy.

Time to go, see youse tommorow.

13163. Max Macks - 1/11/2005 10:30:06 PM

The rain stopped this morning and the sun is out bright
now at noon.

Mago , where do you live?

13164. Jenerator - 1/11/2005 10:38:32 PM

It's funny, now the staff in my department are on the South Beach Diet. Last year this time it was the Atkins diet.

13165. Magoseph - 1/11/2005 11:25:01 PM

Jen, I read somewhere that many people are weary to try Atkins' diet since the man died.

13166. Jenerator - 1/11/2005 11:35:10 PM

He died of a head trauma accident from falling - he was in great health.

Personally, I can't live without some carbs...white flour, rice, white pastas.

13167. Jenerator - 1/11/2005 11:37:40 PM

I ate too many pecans this winter. I'm pecan-ed out.

13168. Magoseph - 1/11/2005 11:38:57 PM

I never eat meat, lots of fruit and vegetables, though.

13169. Magoseph - 1/11/2005 11:47:00 PM

Max, I live in south-east Wisconsin. I know you live in California, but where exactly?

13170. Max Macks - 1/12/2005 1:31:03 AM

Mago , I remember now that we had a brief email eschange
last year regarding French and art or both.
(I think that is what it was about)

I live across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco.

I lived in Wisconsin a couple of times. The last
in Stevens Point.
Trying to think of towns in south east Wisconsin ,
but memory today is faulty.

13171. Max Macks - 1/12/2005 1:33:08 AM

Jenerator pecans are one of my favorite nuts
but them most of them are ,except almonds

I have seen some really good pecans from Texas
but not this year.
the ones in the market seem to be too dried
and wrinkled.

13172. judithathome - 1/12/2005 1:50:13 AM

We kept all the good ones for Jen.

Our neighbors have three very large pecan tress. Ditto my friend who goes to exercise with me. She sold all her pecans for $80...
