Alistair, I know this is no good to you, and it would be the last thing on earth you would do, but there is about, on last reckoning, a dozen tom cats buried in the field below my mothers house. My youngest brother has shot the most of them.

I don't know of any other way of dissuading them from taking up virtual residence if you don't have a tom of your own.

there are pet doors that have an electronic lock, but it requires your pet wear a collar with the electronic key...this way it will allow only your pet in the house.

The scenery is amazing in the backyard this morning. Every branch, little or big, is white and the dark-gray sky, makes everything fairy-like, truly an enchanting sight out there. I have never seen this place looking so beautiful.

A .22 is a reliable cure for prowling cat problems.

Pretty Halle, pretty dress!!

I liked that med blue number that that actress was wearing...can't remember her name as I'm really really really out of the loop on movie things these days...she had the longer blonde hair in almost ringlets, plunging neckline and a soft loose flow to the skirt.

I missed salma hayek though i heard the guys were really ogling her...you wouldn't have a pic of her would you mags?

Connor,

You might trap it and have it fixed --- although some Toms will spray even after being neutered.

13948. thoughtful - 2/28/2005 8:21:13 PM

Thanks pp...no wonder the guys were ogling! Yow that's a real barbie doll dress!

I was delighted to see the women looking so glamorous for the most part. So much better than the days of heroine-chic!

13949. thoughtful - 2/28/2005 8:25:29 PM

I guess it was kate winslet I was thinking of.

I have a dress just like this one, except the belt is half the size than it is on this photo and the color is a tad darker--do you like it, thoughtful?

13952. thoughtful - 2/28/2005 8:45:02 PM

It's luscious! And it looks incredibly comfortable.

Though I think I'd wear a bra...

13953. Magoseph - 2/28/2005 9:00:25 PM

Yes, well, of course--I couldn't show myself without one anyway.

13954. thoughtful - 2/28/2005 9:42:26 PM

It's also interesting to see how pale the women were. I guess the aging/skin cancer/damaging effects of the sun are finally catching up with the fashion world. It's taken about 80 years to get past coco chanel's tanning emphasis.

13955. ronski - 2/28/2005 9:46:48 PM

How do women manage not to step on long dresses? Short, purposeful steps?

13956. PelleNilsson - 2/28/2005 9:52:16 PM

They float.

As you step forward, your foot will kick the fabric out in front of you, if you're careful, so as not to step on the hem.

I remember flipping channels and coming across one of those runway shows. The floor was extremely shiny and the models were wearing really high platform shoes. I remember thinking to myself how impossible it must be to walk on that surface without falling. Especially since the models do such an exaggerated walk. You're supposed to walk with one foot in front of the other as if on a balance beam, but these gals usually swing the foot over even further so they are actually crossing in front. Sure enough, one of them went down. She managed to pick herself up right away and keep walking, but how she managed to keep from breaking her ankle was beyond me. Unless of course she did and just covered it up really well until she got backstage!

Depends somewhat on the dress, but in addition to being careful, a bit of a forward kick in one's step and a pointed toe prevents walking up the inside of a long dress. Plus, you can always just lift your skirts a little bit while walking. You'll notice that the pictures on the red carpet are usually of posed actresses rather than walking ones. Runway models get to kick and swish as part of their job --- it shows off the lines of the garments better.
