Sweden never had any V1 rockets of its own, jex. This was rocket science at the time, you know. Your source probably refers to (or is confused by) the V1:s that came down in south Sweden 1943-44. There was a V2, too, which we gave to the Brits for their perusal. They were also allowed to set up a monitoring station in Sweden.

Oh, hello, Pelle--I didn't see you in your corner brooding over your coffee--where were you lately, if may ask?

Okay, let's get these margins back in order! (Mags asked me to do this!)

14021. judithathome - 3/8/2005 1:40:18 AM

Arky, we'll be coming to see you in the truck...better gas milage than my car...so let us know if you want a truckload of anything. ;-)

14022. arkymalarky - 3/8/2005 3:14:28 AM

Hahaha! Gee, let me think....

You may want to haul a truckload of jonquils back, though I don't know how they could possibly still be blooming--the blooms have been unreal this year. I should be taking pictures. But some varieties haven't come up yet, including the ones in front of our barn. I think it's really going to be gorgeous here that weekend, and I'm really looking forward to the festival since I've never been and I had such a great time with the kids at Old Washington this fall. We all had a blast. I'd been before, but I don't remember it being as much fun, though it's a really neat and interesting place.

14023. alistairconnor - 3/8/2005 10:41:29 AM

Jonquils eh? Well yes in theory it's that time of year. But there's a foot or two of snow on top of them.

Last night, for the first time in 15 years, I was unable to get home -- got as far as the village, started on the last 2km of small road but there were already several cars stuck and blocking it, so I backed up and stayed with friends.

Also, I noticed on Sunday that the heating fuel was nearly empty -- why is that?? it's because oil is $55 a barrel. The delivery guy tut-tutted and said, some time this week, if it doesn't snow too much...

Sixty-nine degrees yesterday in Fort Worth, Judith was telling me yesterday--I wish I could be in Keoni's truck when is it, the eighteenth?

14025. wonkers2 - 3/8/2005 3:54:26 PM

Anybody else tired of hearing about Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson and Paris Hilton?

14026. thoughtful - 3/8/2005 4:15:18 PM

I don't hear about paris hilton...but i am sick of hearing about martha and sickened by the stuff i hear about jackson.

There is so much else going on in the world that matters and the paradox is that the smaller the world and the more we can know about what's going on, the more repetitive and entertainment driven the news has become.

I guess the deteriorating educational system we've fostered over the last 40 years is coming home to roost. Who cares who our un ambassador is when we can pop open our beer and tune into professional wrestling!

14027. judithathome - 3/8/2005 4:51:28 PM

it's because oil is $55 a barrel.

I feel like I'm buying that every time I fill up at the pump...my car takes premium and if I fill the tank full, it's about $42.

14028. thoughtful - 3/8/2005 5:22:04 PM

J@h, yesterday I filled up with regular at $2.04/gal...midrange is $2.14 and high test is $2.24. And that's at a reasonably priced station...other stations are much higher.

14029. Magoseph - 3/8/2005 5:34:54 PM

You remember Scott Peterson’s trial—I became so incensed by the coverage, I just screamed—get this off, please. I will not watch anything anymore about Michael Jackson or about any other celebrity. I’m so getting tired of watching the same pundits every night, I persuaded Flexy to watch a movie instead at least every other day. Of course, I absolutely cannot watch anything with Bush in it, I have to leave the room.

14030. thoughtful - 3/8/2005 5:45:20 PM

Unless you were in the NYC area, you probably wouldn't know about Tiwana Brawley. I was so sick of hearing her name at the time that I thought I'd die if I heard it again. But just like all the other flashes in the pan, she suddenly vanished off the headlines never to be heard from again. It's so strange. You're left wondering what ever happened to her. Funny, I don't remember media overload when I was growing up...maybe I just wasn't tuned into the media so much in those days. Now it seems like that's the only way the on air media knows how to behave.
