There is still a lot of farrier work, but that is not blacksmithing exactly. Most blacksmiths do the ornamental work now. 14054. uzmakk - 3/10/2005 3:05:23 PM Mostly ornamental work. The American Blacksmith organization, what ever it is called, produces a rather slick magazine. A featured artist in a recent issue was showing off a bannister, the spindles of which were cattails(very natural looking and unspindle like) with a heron amongst them at the top of the stairs. A huge amount of work. Getting commissions like that cannot be easy. I told the boy that he was not taking the easy road. 'Course he's young and the advice means nothing to him.

The other night driving home was the slipperiest drive so far this year. Rain changed to freezing rain before being coated in several inches of snow making for incredibly bad driving. And the winds were howling near hurricane force...one town reported a gust at 63 mph. Weather man said pressure drop was the equivalent of those in a hurricane. Temps were in the single digits...windchill below zero. All of this 2 days after it was 55 and sunny. Welcome to New England. 14058. PelleNilsson - 3/10/2005 7:31:35 PM March is a hopeless month. Magoseph - 3/10/2005 8:52:51 PM Yesterday while I was walking, I saw the snow along my route was not packed-white anymore, it was transparent and of a crystalline appearance—looked for the life of me like diamonds. There was not a cloud and the sun was bright--this probably accounted for this effect. I had never seen that before and I was quite entranced by it. I even took Flexy out to see it. Really, maybe it is time to be just glad to have what I have, which I don't deserve much of and don't protest, it is the truth.
