1390. Jimbo - 4/16/2000 7:45:21 AM Well, that worked just fine except the time sure isn't right. Now how does that work. 1391. CalGal - 4/16/2000 7:48:28 AM Jimbo,
Mote FAQs. Look for "How to set date/time for my own zone?"
And welcome.
1392. Indiana Jones - 4/16/2000 7:50:02 AM Welcome, Jimbo. 1393. Jimbo - 4/16/2000 9:02:37 AM Thanks to both for the welcome. Now let's see if the time is right. I have looked over some of the topics. Very interesting. May get involved. 1394. Dusty - 4/16/2000 9:58:36 AM Welcome Jimbo. Dive right in. 1395. mandolin - 4/21/2000 1:10:42 AM New here -- just seeing if I can set the clock 1396. theDiva - 4/21/2000 1:19:39 AM Welcome, mandolin! And welcome, Jimbo! 1397. marshame - 4/21/2000 1:23:38 AM mandolin and you other newbies:
Welcome! the mote is like a great big water-park. You should probably start in the baby pool (like the Mote Cafe), getting your tootsies wet and splashing and playing and making friends. when you get more adventuresome, you can move into the intermediate features, like Movies & Television and Home & Garden where you can tell a bit about yourself and express an opinion or two, and no-one will come after you with meathooks or anything.
After you feel like you can hold your own, go ahead and take a plunge into some of the other threads like Religion (or whatever it's called today, the name changes regularly) or Politics or Current Events. Better be able to put your money where your mouth is, though, cause we've got some pretty sophisticated Moties in those threads who will expect you to cite Chapter and Verse or legal reference, and then will want to argue over the authority/reputability of your sources. But if you have a strong ego and enjoy argument, these threads have a lot of action and you can learn some interesting things and new perspectives.
Bottom line is: jump in, the water's fine! 1398. theDiva - 4/21/2000 1:29:10 AM Excellent synopsis, marsha. 1399. mandolin - 4/21/2000 3:10:58 AM Thanks for the advice, Marsha.
I came here because of a general invitation by James Wright at the Fray during a discussion of a poem by Andrew Hudgins. Though I'm a newbie here, I've been on UseNet in various incarnations since 1988 (though not much lately), was briefly a Wellpern, and have been a regular at Cafe Utne and The Speakeasy for about 2 years. I hope I can contribute something to this community, especially in the poetry thread. You can find some of my poetry here. 1400. mmmWaffles - 4/21/2000 10:10:30 AM Hey marshame, kindly stuff your patronizing advice. 1401. mmmWaffles - 4/22/2000 4:04:11 AM This is a test. I used the "Check for Dust" button in the "arts" thread just now and it ate my message... Hmm, seems to be OK now... 1402. dusty - 4/24/2000 9:51:17 AM I thought it was great advice, marshame. 1403. dusty - 4/24/2000 9:52:04 AM mmmWaffles
There's an Inferno thread if you must be insulting. 1404. janjon - 5/2/2000 4:57:46 AM This is the last of my periodic effort to help make sure that every little thing is in its rightful place around here.
Cheers, Pelle. 1405. marshame - 5/3/2000 6:43:21 AM Hey marshame, kindly stuff your patronizing advice.
Dear Waffles, it's my job, which I do extremely well. I have advanced degrees in both Patronization and in Advice Giving. So there. 1406. Black Dog Bone - 5/10/2000 2:51:19 AM GREETINGS! 1407. CalGal - 5/10/2000 2:51:57 AM Hey, you're back. 1408. Black Dog Bone - 5/10/2000 3:00:31 AM Back, and forth. When you're a rapper, life is sweet. 1409. CalGal - 5/14/2000 1:37:11 AM
How long does this take to load? I'm running on a slow connection, so it's hard to tell.
