Was she in the locality? you have to play the odds alistair.

14140. judithathome - 3/14/2005 5:53:49 PM

We won $120 on Saturday's Lotto!

14141. alistairconnor - 3/14/2005 6:51:03 PM

$120... play the odds... you mean, like trying for a pull in a local bar?

14142. Macnas - 3/14/2005 6:54:17 PM

Well, the odds of pulling Ms Jones go up substantially if you happen to be in the bar at the same time she is. Never mind the odds of her being there in the first place.

Well done judith!
What would I do with $120?...hmmm......I could use them as beer vouchers I suppose.

Mago,

I KISS YOU!!!

Comes from a website created by a Turkish guy to try and get dates. It was sort of a personal ad and one of the things most often repeated on it was "I KISS YOU!".

Diva-licious brought our attention to it and it just sort of stuck and became a standard greeting. One of my faves!

14144. arkymalarky - 3/14/2005 8:37:56 PM

Hey all. Congrats to Judith!

Home with a sinus infection. It's sorta depressing, since it's the first since I began an allergy program last summer. I had a headcold a couple of weeks ago that everyone else had, and I don't know if that's what started it or not. I thought I was just having an allergic reaction to something last night, but evidently not.

And I've got a huge stack of papers to finish and grades to figure by tomorrow morning, so I took meds and will hopefully get a nap in before starting on them. I didn't sleep last night, because this hit as I was going to bed. I used to call it the "fish-flop," when you have to constantly switch sides to keep your nose unstopped. I hadn't experienced that since last summer. Oh well.

14145. arkymalarky - 3/14/2005 8:40:03 PM

And an upside of dealing with my allergies, as Pelle may have noticed, since he was my early morning online companion several times, but I don't get migraines nearly as often since being on this program. I guess you don't notice how well something's working until you get a reminder of why you were using it in the first place.

14146. arkymalarky - 3/14/2005 8:44:15 PM

Mags, how is your tooth?

14147. judithathome - 3/14/2005 8:45:14 PM

What would I do with $120?...hmmm......I could use them as beer vouchers I suppose.

Keoni is buying 2 new tires with his boon...so we won't be jiggled and joggled to death on our way to Arky's this weekend.

Speaking of which, do you think you will be over the sinus attack by then? Because we can cancel if you're having a run of it; I know how that can be and wouldn't want people staying with me while going through an attack.

14148. wabbit - 3/14/2005 8:46:22 PM

Mahir - I KISS YOU!!

Ah yes, the charming Mahir, who likes sex and is waiting for your phone call...

Patsy, sorry to hear about your roof. I hope you can get to the Keys sometime.

Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, congratulations, and all that kind of thing to all where it is appropriate (I've been away for past three weeks and have Arky's head cold now).

14149. Ms. No - 3/14/2005 8:46:29 PM

Ah! Mahir is his name. Here's a Salon Article about the phenomenon.

14150. Magoseph - 3/14/2005 9:35:13 PM

It’s funny that you asked about my broken tooth, Arky, I just came back from the dentist and it turns out that I have a bit of work to be done quickly--I won’t get into that much, since that type of thing depresses me to no end, the work to be done and the cost of it--it will be $2,000 minimum, I was told. Well, I am going to take a nap now and try to forget about what’s going to happen starting tomorrow at 8:30 am.

14151. arkymalarky - 3/14/2005 10:35:46 PM

Speaking of which, do you think you will be over the sinus attack by then?

Nonono! I'll be good to go. He put me on a 6 day prednisone pack. I had this stuff so much for years that I just got to where I worked around it, but now that I've gotten it under control, I'm determined to keep it that way. Even in AR in springtime.

Ooh, sorry about the cold, Wabbit. Must be from sharing threads. ;-)

14152. arkymalarky - 3/14/2005 10:39:57 PM

Sorry to hear that, Mags. Tooth work is expensive. I had one pulled at the very back a year or so ago. I wasn't on insurance and he gave me the cost comparison of root canal ($1000) or pulling ($125) and it was a no-brainer for me. Now that I have some dental insurance and a bad tooth that's not at the back, I just can't see starting to pull them. It would have been around $1500, but it will be about $500 with insurance. I won't get the second part and the crown until this summer.

14153. Magoseph - 3/15/2005 12:32:59 PM

I just made a quick calculation and if I had had dental insurance since my last check-up, it would have cost us more than what I have to pay now for what must be done, Arky.

14154. Macnas - 3/15/2005 12:39:04 PM

Insurance, everybodys burden.

14155. alistairconnor - 3/15/2005 12:44:23 PM

What would I do with $120?...hmmm......I could use them as beer vouchers I suppose.

That'd be about four pints at modern Irish prices eh?

14156. Magoseph - 3/15/2005 1:02:51 PM

Mac--it seems to me that the French have a better deal of medical care than most countries—it certainly surprised me to learn that a couple like my brother and his wife, people who live very well with summerhouse, winter condominium, and frequent travel, pay so little for all their medical or dental care.

14157. alistairconnor - 3/15/2005 1:14:35 PM

Hey, caught you saying somethin good about France!

Actually, if you look at the compulsory deductions from earnings to pay for health care, it isn't all that cheap.

But it is pretty nearly universal. People on the minimum wage have affordable access to the same quality of medical care as your brother's family.

Article in today's NYT about sinus infections.
