Excellent, thanks judith, thoughtful and Ms.No.

I'm off the the tack shop as soon as the whistle blows.

14500. Magoseph - 4/6/2005 4:39:10 PM

Ms. No, how was the trip? How do you feel? Tell us,please, when you have the time.

14501. Ms. No - 4/6/2005 4:45:17 PM

I'll be retrieving my photos this afternoon and should have pictures for you tomorrow. The trip was excellent in many ways but a bit depressing in others and while I grew closer to some members of my family I developed a definite dislike for others of them. No great losses but it will certainly bear on what kind of family events I attend in future.

The kicker is that I spent a week in Acapulco in perfect health then came back to the states and promptly got food poisoning at a cookout the day after I returned. There is nothing in the world to make you want your mommy like having food poisoning.

14502. arkymalarky - 4/6/2005 5:02:09 PM

Oh my. Sounds like a mixed bag all around, but it sounds like Acapulco must've been great.

14503. Ms. No - 4/6/2005 5:23:57 PM

The weather was fabulous but I'm really missing the humidity --- and so is my hair. Shirley Temple had nothing on me while I was there.

14504. thoughtful - 4/6/2005 5:42:54 PM

Sensitive topic time...how does one go about telling a nice young indian gal that she's doing herself harm socially and career-wise by not practicing 'american' style hygiene. I had to teach her to flush the toilet completely. (Fortunately, we've not had a problem in that regard since.) Not sure if i can get her to wash her hands after bathrooming. But yesterday was the worst. She was in there at the end of the day and the b o was palpable...even after she left the room! Fortunately I don't sit anywhere near her, but was strongly tempted to leave some ban on her desk anonymously. Yikes!

14505. Ms. No - 4/6/2005 6:02:21 PM

An anonymous note might be useful --- less embarassing for both of you but still helpful to her.

14506. Magoseph - 4/6/2005 6:02:56 PM

Does she have a counselor assigned to her?

14507. thoughtful - 4/6/2005 6:08:42 PM

i don't know...i don't think so

at one point we had a woman managing people on this program who would've been able to handle it tactfully...she was like a mother hen to these kids... but now the guy running it is not exactly what you'd call 'sensitive'.

I suppose a note might do it.

14508. Magoseph - 4/6/2005 6:36:45 PM

Thoughtful, I would ask advice how to handle this delicate matter from whoever is in charge, (above the counselor’s position), and demand confidentiality for what I am about to say to him or her. What is more important than anything else, in my view, is the fact that this girl may be made fun of behind her back by the others in her class.

14509. thoughtful - 4/6/2005 6:45:47 PM

I'm sorry...this is not a school. This is a business. I work in an office.

14510. thoughtful - 4/6/2005 6:47:19 PM

the 'program' i referred to is one of these training programs for people just out of college as a foray into the company. I guess my age is showing. I referred to her as a young gal as she's in her early 20s. Seems young to me!

14511. thoughtful - 4/6/2005 6:49:42 PM

but thinking about this reminded me of the time we had a fellow from down south in the office. Fortunately he was only here for about 6 weeks on temp assignment. Well he would frequent the gym and come back to his office with gym bag open and clothing, sneakers, etc. sort of strewn. One of the secy's put a sign on the door that said 'quarantined' hoping he would get the message, but he just laughed. This secy sat in such a way that she could see into his office. She's sitting there hearing this random click...click.....click click. She looks up to see him talking on the phone, sock and shoe off, foot in the air, clipping his toe nails!!! BLECCCH!

Okay, here's good for a laugh. These are Weight Watchers Cards from the 70's brought to you by a fan of Jim Lilek (of The Gobbler fame)

Vintage Weight Watcher's Recipe Cards

Definitely thereutic. I'm laughing which hurts like the devil today because of the work-out my stomach muscles got from food poisoning. I'm rationing myself to four cards an hour. I laugh. I hurt. I rest. I repeat.

14514. Ms. No - 4/6/2005 7:08:04 PM

uh, that would be therapeutic. sheesh. The dehydration is affecting my spelling.

14515. arkymalarky - 4/6/2005 7:09:16 PM

Just make sure you don't have an old tuna sandwich sitting around anywhere before you say anything to anyone, Thoughtful.

14516. arkymalarky - 4/6/2005 7:25:03 PM

I must say, this place has been a joy to visit this week, with the return of some old friends and great contributors in both words and pictures, and the new life in the Poetry thread.

14517. Magoseph - 4/6/2005 7:25:21 PM

I'm sorry...this is not a school. This is a business. I work in an office.

Oh, sorry--if I were you, I would tell her privately then--you can only help her future that way.

14518. judithathome - 4/6/2005 7:27:46 PM

Magos, you are needed in All TV, All The Time at Atlantic Refugees...a question from a producer for the Travel Channel about how to pronounce a French city's name.
