How do you like this avatar? It's made by Tabby.

I can't see it. Don't stomp your little last season Prada shoes at me, honey. It's a red X.

larky, I hope you find your beloved dog.

14850. arkymalarky - 5/6/2005 7:03:19 AM

Thanks, Ulgine. We're really down about it. This is the third night. But we're leaving no stone unturned.

Mags, I see it and it's very suave--assuming it's not an outfit for the runway--she'd end up in the audience's laps! ;-)

It's always so nice to see you, Ulgine!

Arky, any news?

Hi, Mac.

14852. Macnas - 5/6/2005 1:28:01 PM

Allo Mago

14853. arkymalarky - 5/6/2005 2:58:45 PM

Mags,

No, and I guess that's good news. I've called all the local pounds, vets, news outlets, and neighbors I can think of and I'll put up signs this afternoon and announce it in church Sunday. If that doesn't do it, then I think she either died somewhere around here and we may or may not ever find her (we never found Bob's dog, and we know that's what happened to him, because he was very ill--Mose was a month old at the time), or someone took her for their own, and I just hope they treat her well.

14854. arkymalarky - 5/6/2005 3:00:15 PM

I also drove all the local roads again this morning and saw no sign of any animal having been hit except a small pulpy thing that looked like it had once been a possum.

14855. judithathome - 5/7/2005 3:19:22 PM

Arky, my heart goes out to you, as you know...I hope Diva turns up but one thing you be certain of, if someone took her, they will treat her well. She's a sweetheart.

14856. Ms. No - 5/7/2005 4:52:13 PM

Oh, Arky, that's terrible. I'd be frantic. I'll keep my fingers crossed that she's just out adventuring and will be home soon.

Wizard of Whimsy - Beautiful work. I really like it.

Um, How much do they cost? I liked all of them.

14858. The Summer Woman - 5/8/2005 1:18:01 AM

Judith! Happy belated birthday.

14859. judithathome - 5/8/2005 4:48:36 AM

Just dropping in to let y'all know both my candidates won today...in landslides. I guess positive campaigning DOES count for something.

14860. arkymalarky - 5/8/2005 4:56:01 AM

Congratulations! It really does make a difference.

I guess by now you got my phone message.

For the other Moties, I have a sad update on Diva. A friend of ours found her dead on the highway this morning, right in the middle of the road. She hadn't been there more than 12 hours or so, because we'd driven the road the previous afternoon and there was no sign of her. She evidently got on the trail of an animal and wandered a lot further from home than she'd ever done and was trying to make her way back. We buried her in the back yard between the house and barn.

Bob and I are both really down about it, not only because she was so close to both of us, but because she was alive until last night, though she'd been gone since Tuesday evening. She was a super happy dog and loved everything about being outside and inside, but she had been getting much more bold with her hunting in the last few months. She would have been miserable penned up, but we're miserable without her at the moment.

14861. judithathome - 5/8/2005 5:07:38 AM

Arky, I'm so very sorry...I sent you an e-mail. Keoni and I both are so down about your news. She was a fantastic and big hearted little dog. You already know how much we loved her.....

14862. arkymalarky - 5/8/2005 5:13:46 AM

Thanks so much, Judith. You and Keoni are such fine friends, and you both appreciated Diva so much that I was dreading telling you all, and I was sort of glad you weren't home. It's been hard to keep my composure around people (and I've failed at it several times in the last few days). Bob and I have both been so sad, and we had to take his mother to Little Rock this afternoon, which turned out to be a good thing. We didn't need to stay home.

I'm glad we know where she is and she's home where she belongs, but she's been the best little pet both of us have ever had and we were looking forward to many more years with her. I think we'll sit out back a little with her before we go to bed tonight.

14863. wabbit - 5/8/2005 5:35:29 AM

Arky, I'm so sorry to hear about Diva. From your posts I know she was a wonderful little dog and a good friend. Please give my condolences to Bob and Mose also.

14864. Magoseph - 5/8/2005 10:58:26 AM

Oh, Arky, this is so heartbreaking--our sympathy to you, Bob, and Moses.

14865. wonkers2 - 5/8/2005 12:04:40 PM

Good morning, Mago. You're up early.

14866. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 5/8/2005 3:14:45 PM

. . . penned in Boston by Julia Ward Howe in 1870:

Arise, then, women of this day!
Arise all women who have hearts,
Whether your baptism be that of water or of tears
Say firmly:
"We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies,
Our husbands shall not come to us reeking of carnage,
For caresses and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.
We women of one country
Will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.
From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says, "Disarm, Disarm!"
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice!
Blood does not wipe out dishonor
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the summons of war.
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them then solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace,
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar,
But of God.
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
That a general congress of women without limit of nationality
May be appointed and held at some place deemed most convenient
And at the earliest period consistent with its objects
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions.
The great and general interests of peace.

Maybe next year -- Happy Mother's Day!

14867. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 5/8/2005 3:16:28 PM

Condolences, Ark.
