Thoughtful, there are other types of coon cats? I met one once, the size is right but the hair was not as long.

15110. uzmakk - 5/24/2005 6:19:55 PM

Nevermind, I found these words heading up a bunch of Maine Coon links, "Pictures of Maine Coon Cats to show their wonderful diversity."

15111. thoughtful - 5/24/2005 6:23:31 PM

Not according to the Cat Fanciers' Assoc.

The Maine Coon is the native American longhaired cat and was recognized as a specific breed in Maine where they were held in high regard for their mousing talents. Through nature’s own breeding program, this breed has developed into a sturdy cat ideally suited to the harsh winters and varied seasons of the region.

Of course with any animal, there are variations away from the specific breeders requirements...so maybe you saw a mix of some sort.

15112. Ms. No - 5/24/2005 8:07:13 PM

Yes, they're huge. My mother's cousin had two and they were the biggest cats I've ever seen. Not fat, just big and they were long-haired like the one in the pics but she had a grey one and a kind of chocolate brown tiger striped one.

I've heard they actually like water, too.

WX is back up...this sort of thing happens over there about once a year. Someone said it was because they reached a preset posting limit and the sysop was sleeping in. No biggie.

15082, 084, 085

"One Froggy Evening" Chuck Jones, Warner Brothers Looney Tunes.

One of the things that makes it so effective is that other than the frog's vocalizations, the cartoon is silent.

some trivia

15115. thoughtful - 5/24/2005 8:26:03 PM

I'm still a little stunned by that belgian blue cow. I mean it looks like a cow on steroids...i've only ever known a cow to look bony, like this Jersey.

But that one has a horse's butt! Amazing. Are they any good to eat? Somehow they just look like they'd be muscle bound and tough.

Is this the song of the frog?

Hello, my baby, hello my bonnie,
Hello my ragtime girl.
Send me a kiss by wire.
Baby, my heart's on fire.
If you'll refuse me
Honey, you'll lose me,
Then you'll be left alone.
Oh, baby, telephone
And tell me I'm your own....

15118. concerned - 5/24/2005 9:38:10 PM

Get the Purina hairball control cat food and a good grooming brush if you want to keep a cat like the Maine Coon feeling and looking good.

15119. jayackroyd - 5/24/2005 10:54:37 PM

Yes, but I hear "honey" not bonnie in the first line.

The Michigan Rag was apparently an original composition for the cartoon.

I'm just wild about Harry
is also in the cartoon

The trouble with these clips is that not included is that each song ends with the frog making a low pitched croak, just as he becomes visible to other people.

I received a viciously racist joke today which the person who wrote it attributed to David Letterman. It was titled "David Letterman's Top 10 Reasons Why There are No Black NASCAR Drivers." I'm quite sure Letterman had nothing to do with this trash. Somebody evidently is trying sell their bad fish by using Letterman's name. Anybody else seen anything like this?

15121. Magoseph - 5/25/2005 1:19:33 AM

I googled it--it's pretty vile. I'm sure Letterman has nothing to do with that, Won.

15122. Magoseph - 5/25/2005 1:20:27 AM

By the way, you have been rather busy lately, haven't you?

15123. arkymalarky - 5/25/2005 1:31:24 AM

Hey!

I have to chime in about Mac, and I LOVE the whole feel of reading what he writes.

I'm very partial to the county fair and I drag Bob every fall to look at the prize sewing and garden produce and baked goods, and through all the farm animals and everything. He hates it--which is crazy, since he loved farming. It's just one of those obligations that go with the partnership. I have a few as well, but Bob seems to forget that whenever his turn comes up.

15124. arkymalarky - 5/25/2005 1:37:22 AM

Thanks for asking about the pup, Mags! I do believe she's a prodigy. She pooped outside, hasn't had one accident, and seems to be learning "no" really fast--staying on her mat when she's on the carpet, not getting on our shoes, etc. Mojo seems to like her, but I'm not ready to let her play with her yet--under two pounds and over 60 is a lot of difference in size for playmates. Mojo and Diva did great (unless there was food involved), but Diva could back her off and get away from her when necessary.

And I don't think the name Doby's going to stick. It's getting to be a thing between Bob and me now. He's thought of one name--Cady--and I picked the spelling. I have all the ones in here and about fifty I put out, and he's pooh-poohed all of them, or even worse, said "it's okay," usually followed by: "but"+some obscure acquaintance, neighbor, or relative I either forgot about or never knew existed.

I don't want to name this puppy the most idiotic name I can think of just to irritate Bob every time I use it, but it's tempting.

15125. arkymalarky - 5/25/2005 1:38:01 AM

We've only named one pet together in 24 years, btw, and that's Mojo. I suggested it and Bob loved it.

15126. arkymalarky - 5/25/2005 1:43:24 AM

Trillium,

Thanks so much! Diva was a great little dog and we really miss her.

15127. arkymalarky - 5/25/2005 1:44:50 AM

Jay, that is just too cool. I always loved it when that cartoon came on tv. I had no idea it was so well known.

15128. arkymalarky - 5/25/2005 1:46:44 AM

It wouldn't do to have such a voluptuous cow as the Belgian blue in AR.
