I'm telling you, you Texans and your legislature make us Arkies look downright civilized. ;-)

did you see the yale divinity law school went to the air force academy in colorado springs and was shocked to learn how the evangelicals have so penetrated the school? Must be pretty bad for seminary profs to notice....

15328. thoughtful - 6/3/2005 9:28:29 PM

good news on brother....looks like he might come home tomorrow.

15329. Magoseph - 6/3/2005 9:55:54 PM

Oh, good, thoughtful--is the family going to ask him, rather demand of him that he takes care of himself when he feels better?

I don't know mags, that presumes a willingness to listen on his part which he has yet to demonstrate.

To give you an idea of how concerned he and his wife are about health issues, she had to have her gall bladder out so they did it laproscopically. Well of course they wanted her to stay a couple of days in the hospital, but that would mean she'd have to go a couple of days without smoking, which she couldn't do. So she left. She told them she was leaving...made them pull the ivs and all and left AMR and went home so she could smoke.

So yesterday she and my mother go to visit brother in the ICU and the first thing she says to him is, if you don't like it here, just leave. That's what I did. They can't make you stay. My mother was stunned and was glad my brother ignored that 'helpful' suggestion!

See what we're dealing with? Highly unlikely anything will change. And they are very good at blaming each other for their poor habits. She says I can't quit smoking because he won't, and he says I can't quit smoking because she won't. Fundamentally, neither of them has a desire to quit despite the expense, the inconvenience and the oh so obvious health risks. They're killing themselves, and they know it but they don't care. So it goes.

And now, in his long-awaited first appearance on the internet, introducing, our man...

15332. ronski - 6/4/2005 12:21:51 AM

...Bruno!

15333. robertjayb - 6/4/2005 12:36:39 AM

Neat bear. He looks pretty fit. How long out of hibernation do you suppose?

15334. ronski - 6/4/2005 12:39:11 AM

Two months, he tells me.

15335. arkymalarky - 6/4/2005 4:23:46 PM

Oh cool! Is that right outside your place?

15336. arkymalarky - 6/4/2005 4:28:46 PM

Good news on your brother, Thoughtful.

Boycott U-haul

Just spent 2 1/2 hours on hold this morning trying to find out the status on a truck I reserved last week so that I could move this weekend (in-town)... only to find out they will not honor the reservation unless I drive 50 miles to get the truck.

Bah... they didn't charge me the $50 cancellation fee, but there is a $5 fee they won't refund. $5 for nothing but 2 1/2 hours of wasted time... and not enough time to rent from somewhere else (have a wedding to go to this afternoon).

Never again... and I invite you to tell your friends the same.

Luckily I have friends with vans, and we can handle it in a couple of trips, but it's always nice to do it in one hop.

Thanks Arky.

Ronski, I can hardly BEAR such pictures! It's a real honey of a shot. Why it gives me PAWS!

That bear looks exactly like our friends' Belgian Bouvier, only SoHo has longer hair.

15340. ronski - 6/4/2005 5:19:40 PM

The view of Bruno is from our front deck.

Here is another, on the side of the house:

Scratching, after a meal of red ants:

Taking leave:

15344. judithathome - 6/4/2005 7:12:55 PM

SoHo weighs about 170 pounds...what do you think Bruno weighs?

15345. ronski - 6/4/2005 7:30:13 PM

300 lbs., maybe a little more.
