15425. judithathome - 6/10/2005 12:06:56 AM Back from the doctor and I may have a blood clot in my left calf...will find out Tuesday. 15426. Ulgine Barrows - 6/10/2005 7:00:55 AM Find what out? Are you OK? Does it hurt?
Heterochromia iridium, green and gray. 15427. Ulgine Barrows - 6/10/2005 10:03:59 AM I'm scared, having rashly quit my job that I've loathed for years. I didn't loathe the $35/hr nor the people, but I had to lie a lot, and it got me.
All these new jobs available on the web/local paper are for $10/hr. Way low. I think I made a big mistake.
Any ideas? 15428. Macnas - 6/10/2005 10:06:02 AM What is it that you do? 15429. Ulgine Barrows - 6/10/2005 10:13:21 AM !!!!!!
Damn, our lifestyle is going to change.
Maybe we will have more time and less rush-rush. 15430. Ulgine Barrows - 6/10/2005 10:15:24 AM !!!!!!
Damn, our lifestyle is going to change.
Maybe we will have more time and less rush-rush. 15431. Ulgine Barrows - 6/10/2005 10:21:02 AM Well.
I used to help various software packages get installed:
SAP
JDEdwards
Oracle
'you can buy better but you can't pay more' 15432. Macnas - 6/10/2005 10:30:41 AM Well, first off, don't panic, relax a little and think of why you quit.
If you were unhappy, then it's a good thing, a brave thing that you did and you'll feel the better for it.
Maybe you should take a bit of a break for a while, just to get yourself together and sort yourself out.
If you want to continue with the line of work you're in, and you want as good a return as the industry will stand, redraft your CV and get on to an agency that specialises in your area of expertise. The best rates are contract, short to mid-term.
You'll have to go to where the work is, but it is the most lucrative way of working. Whether or not it suits you and your situation is another thing, but always give yourself all the options. 15433. Ulgine Barrows - 6/10/2005 10:43:43 AM I am so fucking scr3ewd.
Maybe I can go work in a titie bAr.
Clean toilets.
Dang. 15434. Macnas - 6/10/2005 10:49:46 AM You'll be grand. 15435. alistairconnor - 6/10/2005 10:56:32 AM Wow! hang in there Ulgine
Keep us up to date with your crisis, it's not like we can actually help much, but we care...
and Macnas is full of good advice. Though mobility with a small child may be a problem! 15436. alistairconnor - 6/10/2005 10:58:54 AM Actually Ulgine...
I was talking to a friend yesterday, who wants me to do some little software development thing for a client... I'd do it just to help him out, but I'm actually working on plans to get out of my current salaried line of work...
And one thing he proposed, might well turn out to be a good plan for you... let me get my thoughts together 15437. alistairconnor - 6/10/2005 11:14:20 AM The thing about IT is staying a little bit ahead of the curve, if you want to make decent money and have interesting work.
It turns out that, over here anyway, lots of companies are deploying, or want to deploy, Windows Sharepoint Services.
It's a web-based collaborative environment for document sharing etc. -- previously a heavyweight product, now Microsoft is giving away a sawn-off version for Win 2003.
For the moment, the few consultants that know how to help companies implement it, have got work coming out their ears. I'm going to see if I can get a bit of that action. Why don't you have a look?
If it turns out that there's work in the field in your area, then steal a Win2003 Server CD, download Sharepoint, play with it for a couple of weeks and...
Thankyou sir, that'll be $100 an hour. or whatever. 15438. Magoseph - 6/10/2005 12:01:28 PM Back from the doctor and I may have a blood clot in my left calf...will find out Tuesday.
I hope you take it easy until then, Judith. Did the doctor tell you what he's going to do if it turned you have it?
15439. Magoseph - 6/10/2005 12:05:17 PM Hello, Ali and Mac!
Ulgine, as Mac said, it's certainly a brave thing you did. I wish you the best. 15440. Macnas - 6/10/2005 12:27:39 PM Hi Mago 15441. Magoseph - 6/10/2005 4:12:25 PM Mac, I was trying to find an Irish radio station, but no luck. I couldn't find a Swedish one either. I wonder why--do you know if Ireland has an international radio station, by any chance? 15442. Macnas - 6/10/2005 4:16:01 PM The national station, RTE, should be what you are looking for.
15443. Magoseph - 6/10/2005 5:12:52 PM Thanks, Mac--I'm going to see what I can do. I suppose you'll be soon going home--have a great weekend! 15444. arkymalarky - 6/10/2005 6:18:59 PM Good luck on the job situation, Ulgine. Sounds a bit scary but potentially very exciting.
