oh jexster, what a wonderful purrbox!

What toys does that cat prefer? Does it go outside? Please tell me claws are intact!

I agree with Jay, that internet telephony review wasn't very good. For myself, I'm most concerned about quality, then price, and features are at the bottom of my priority list. I've moved so many times that changing a phone number is no big deal to me, and with family scattered all over the place, I'm not married to an area code.

I haven't switched to Vonage (yet), but I use Skype regularly. When Spunky was in New Dehli and Mumbai a couple months ago, we used Skype and found we got far better connections than with the landline. We've also used SkypeOut and had no problems with either connections or call quality.

If anyone does plan to switch to vonage, someone should get the referral bonus (two months billing). www.vonage.com/raf describes the details.

For me, quality, then features. I like the pick up your voice mail in an internet cafe feature, and getting free all the things the Bells charged 5 bucks a month apiece for (three way, forwarding, voicemail etc). Keeping my number would have been a big deal when I switched, because I'd had that number for years, and given it out to a lot of people.

I'm happy with Skype, although it's a little weird knowing that wabbit always knows when I'm online.

15682. wabbit - 7/2/2005 9:08:21 PM

LOL! You know, I actually thought about that and I removed you from my contacts ages ago. I now see only family contacts. Not that it matters much, since I frequently forget to start Skype anyway, and don't want it to autostart when I reboot.

15683. jayackroyd - 7/2/2005 9:54:17 PM

I still have you in my contacts, and I autostart it, because I do want to know when one of my european contacts is online.

15684. wabbit - 7/2/2005 11:07:00 PM

I took you out because I felt like I was peering in my neighbor's window, you know? I also know you use Skype for business, so I'd never ring you without emailing first anyway. Or I figured I could always leave you a message here. And I hate bothering people; I've become a terrible correspondent in any form.

15685. jayackroyd - 7/2/2005 11:08:24 PM

Feel free to watch over my shoulder.

15686. Ms. No - 7/3/2005 12:28:21 AM

heh, heh, I'm trying to figure out if you're just really serious about the open society of if perhaps you're something of an exhibitionist, Jay. ;->

BTW my router came in the mail yesterday but I've been lame and haven't hooked it up yet. Once I register I will definitely list you as the referring customer. Heck, I'll even make you my first call!

15687. Ms. No - 7/3/2005 12:43:19 AM

So they're counting down the top 106.7 greatest KROQ bands and we're down to the top 3. I'm a little irked that U2 came in at #4. I figured the #1 spot would be a toss up between U2 and Nirvana, but now I'm wondering what the heck bands are coming in as #3 & #2 as I'm sure Nirvana will be #1. I'm not upset by Nirvana coming in at the top spot although there are lots of other bands I like more. Certainly they were incredibly influential.

I'm hoping they'll post the whole list at some point so I can see where other groups came in.

Holy shit!!! Nirvana is coming in at #3!! What the hell have they got at #1 & #2?

I hate that I've been suckered into listening to all of this. It wasn't so hard when I was out running errands getting in and out of the car all day but now that I'm home I'd rather read and I can't do that with music playing not to mention commercials.

15688. judithathome - 7/3/2005 12:45:02 AM

Well, now I'm waiting for #1...be sure to post it when it hits.

15689. Ms. No - 7/3/2005 12:54:34 AM

hahaha, I just thought of that --- I've now managed to hook at least one other person on this thing.

Damn, my phone is ringing and I can't answer it because I haven't hooked up my router yet. I've still got the land line hooked up and it doesn't pick up. Hasn't for about six weeks. It just rings and rings and rings and then the machine kicks in and it rings some more because for some reason the line can't be engaged from my apartment. I'm sure it's some problem with the line, but I didn't want to deal with the phone company which I hate anyway.

Hell, my phone almost never rings anyway. I mostly use my cell, but it's been going crazy in the last couple of days. Okay, crazy amounts to three calls, but they're likely just sales calls or calls for the guy who used to have my number.

Sheesh.

15690. arkymalarky - 7/3/2005 12:54:43 AM

Me too, and my company's due here any minute. Whenever I get started on anything like that, I can't stop until I get to the end, no matter how lame it turns out to be--which I guess is why that program format is so common.

15691. arkymalarky - 7/3/2005 12:55:08 AM

Argh! I meant to post that after Judith!

15692. arkymalarky - 7/3/2005 12:57:40 AM

We've switched cell phone numbers so many times within the family that I'm amazed anyone gets who they mean to, though at least it's stayed within the family. Someone asked the other day if I got a voice mail, and I said no and asked what number they called, and when they gave it I told them that was now my MIL's number and gave them my current one, which used to be Mose's. So now my MIL has a voice mail meant for me, and she'll never know it because she never uses the phone.

15693. judithathome - 7/3/2005 1:00:20 AM

I'm sitting here waiting for Keoni to come back from the driving range...yes, I know it's 7pm but my gosh, he's going to play golf in the morning and you can't NOT go to the driving range before you play golf. Forget that you have an air-conditioned garden room with a ceiling high enough to swing a driver...you just HAVE to go.

15694. judithathome - 7/3/2005 1:02:27 AM

I've had this cell for almost two years now and just learned how to retrieve voice mails on it. Of course, no one calls me on it because I never know the number to give out.

15695. Ms. No - 7/3/2005 1:05:43 AM

Yeah, I'm trying to hold out until September when my phone can be upgraded for $20. It'll actually be a double upgrade since the last time it was due my boss upgraded her phone on my number. It's pretty sad right now, the front cover is cracked in half and I have to hold it on with tape.

Grrr...now we get 5 minutes of commercials before they play the next block of songs which will be the #2 band. They were playing 2 each of like the first 25 or something and then 3 and it's been 4 for each band in the top 10.

I'm so not patient.

15696. Ms. No - 7/3/2005 1:11:08 AM

Okay, the #2 band is Depeche Mode which I can sort of see. I mean, yes, they were HUGE for KROQ, but I can't see them beating out both U2 and Nirvana. I mean, Depeche Mode has continued making music but they really had their hey-day in the 80's. I'm a big fan of 80's bands, but this just seems a little weird. Ah well, it was done according to listener votes.

Now just another 45 minutes to #1 which I can't even guess what it'll be. Partially because I don't know what all the other 105.7 band are, but also because I just cannot comprehend a band bigger than U2, Nirvana and...uh, well, Depeche Mode.

weird.
