Southern women take care of their skin...must be all the vacations they take up north. Scares them into it. ;-)

Hey all! Did someone say Arky?

I was lurking until I read in here. For some reason I have to log on every time I come in. I can't figure out what the deal is.

Dial-up is beginning to wear thin on me.

15934. arkymalarky - 7/23/2005 10:01:13 PM

Hope you had a great birthday, Pelle!

15935. anomie - 7/23/2005 10:06:28 PM

Arky, I read off and on about your doggie. I'm so sorry. I lost mine to the British Immigration policy years ago...but I know. I know the ghost at my heels... reminded me for weeks that she wasn't there.

I see you've recovered...

15936. arkymalarky - 7/23/2005 10:40:27 PM

Thanks Anomie. I still miss Diva, but this new puppy has been really great. I had reservations about getting another dog so soon, but we needed to for our sakes and for Mojo, and before we start back to school in August. Had Mazie been as challenging as some puppies I've known I might have ended up regretting it and none of us would be very happy. I don't mind her reminding us of Diva, and she really does, but I don't want to be comparing her to Diva and setting an impossible goal for her, and thankfully we haven't.

Your situation must have been heartbreaking. Pets come and go, but only one or two stand out as heart companions, if you're lucky.

Doggie folk may enjoy this series of photos....

day care adventures...

Just think, if we were Columbian drug traffickers we could send our dogs to such spas.

Hey, Ali, have you taken a week's vacation? How was it? Have you had a terrible heat where you were?

15939. alistairconnor - 7/25/2005 2:03:38 PM

Yes it was the annual week-long mountainbiking fart-fest... 600 km, countless litres of beer and rosé... more dirty jokes than I really needed to hear... if only we could capture all the methane, we wouldn't even have to pedal.

I shall probably file a report in due course, with photos of the usual suspects and some breathtaking landscapes.

The heat on the first day (Sunday 17th) was indeed intense... leaving from the town of Joyeuse in Ardèche (and feeling just fine) we had a tough climb, and we all suffered. One of us collapsed, apparently a sudden drop in blood pressure. Some of us had to carry on until we could get cell reception, then we called for help, and they sent us a firetruck. The guy was OK by then -- he's a diabetic, but it wasn't a glycemic problem -- The crew were great, they took him back to the station for a rest, and he was fine for the rest of the week.

It feels like a sauna outside. Supposed to top 100 today and with the humidity, it is going to feel like 110.

Hi Judith ,

15943. judithathome - 7/25/2005 7:45:48 PM

Hey, Max...howzit?

15944. Max Macks - 7/26/2005 1:16:16 AM

WX seems to have the slows

Someone told me about a place like World Crossing
that hosts many forums . It is called Delphi.

I spent over an hour trying to find my way around the place

Have you ever heard of it ?.

15945. judithathome - 7/26/2005 4:41:37 AM

Nope, never have. But I don't get around much, internet-wise.

This may be old news to everyone, but it's new to me, and seems like a good idea:

ICE - In Case of Emergency

A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world as a particular consequence of the recent terrorist attacks in London. Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative / next-of-kin in
an emergency situation.

The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May this year. Bob, 41, who has been a paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls I've attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile
phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history."

By adopting the ICE advice, your mobile will help the rescue services quickly contact a friend or relative - which could be vital in a life or death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do, and it could easily help save your life. Why not put ICE in your phone now? Simply select a new contact in your phone book, enter the word 'ICE' and the number of
the person you wish to be contacted. For more than one Next of Kin ICE1, ICE2, ICE3.

If you think this is a good idea please pass it on to everyone in your address book. Get you family and friends involved. It is Easy, Free, and could save your life, or at least let you family know what's going on.

15947. Ms. No - 7/26/2005 3:49:41 PM

That is a good idea -- to have it standardized. Generally the first thing I look for in an abandoned cell phone is "Mom" or "Home"

ooh, toys

and a Happy Belated Birthday to Pelle!

15949. Magoseph - 7/26/2005 5:19:12 PM

From me too, Pelle, a Happy Belated Birthday!

It is nice here today, so enjoyable after 98 degrees and 89% humidity the last few days. I know I'd prefer 104 degrees and 20% humidity any day. Yesterday, we had tornado warnings all afternoon.

15950. judithathome - 7/27/2005 5:08:27 PM

It's cool and raining here...I hope this nice cool weather mosies on over to Arky's neck of the woods this weekend!

15951. arkymalarky - 7/27/2005 6:21:04 PM

Me too! The front hasn't gotten here yet. It's in the middle of the state.

Looks like it will be a smaller group this year, but I'm really looking forward to the weekend. I think we're ready. Tell Keoni this time he won't have to vacuum!
