Someone told me about a place like World Crossing
that hosts many forums . It is called Delphi.

I spent over an hour trying to find my way around the place

Have you ever heard of it ?.

15945. judithathome - 7/26/2005 4:41:37 AM

Nope, never have. But I don't get around much, internet-wise.

This may be old news to everyone, but it's new to me, and seems like a good idea:

ICE - In Case of Emergency

A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world as a particular consequence of the recent terrorist attacks in London. Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative / next-of-kin in
an emergency situation.

The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May this year. Bob, 41, who has been a paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls I've attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile
phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history."

By adopting the ICE advice, your mobile will help the rescue services quickly contact a friend or relative - which could be vital in a life or death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do, and it could easily help save your life. Why not put ICE in your phone now? Simply select a new contact in your phone book, enter the word 'ICE' and the number of
the person you wish to be contacted. For more than one Next of Kin ICE1, ICE2, ICE3.

If you think this is a good idea please pass it on to everyone in your address book. Get you family and friends involved. It is Easy, Free, and could save your life, or at least let you family know what's going on.

That is a good idea -- to have it standardized. Generally the first thing I look for in an abandoned cell phone is "Mom" or "Home"

ooh, toys

and a Happy Belated Birthday to Pelle!

15949. Magoseph - 7/26/2005 5:19:12 PM

From me too, Pelle, a Happy Belated Birthday!

It is nice here today, so enjoyable after 98 degrees and 89% humidity the last few days. I know I'd prefer 104 degrees and 20% humidity any day. Yesterday, we had tornado warnings all afternoon.

15950. judithathome - 7/27/2005 5:08:27 PM

It's cool and raining here...I hope this nice cool weather mosies on over to Arky's neck of the woods this weekend!

15951. arkymalarky - 7/27/2005 6:21:04 PM

Me too! The front hasn't gotten here yet. It's in the middle of the state.

Looks like it will be a smaller group this year, but I'm really looking forward to the weekend. I think we're ready. Tell Keoni this time he won't have to vacuum!

15952. judithathome - 7/27/2005 7:07:57 PM

Ha!

I think he is planning to play golf Friday morning...he mentioned bringing his clubs.

15953. Magoseph - 7/27/2005 10:58:07 PM

So, how long are you going to be away, Judith?

15954. judithathome - 7/28/2005 12:09:36 AM

Coming back on Sunday.

15955. Magoseph - 7/28/2005 3:00:54 PM

Have a nice weekend and drive carefully, Judith.

Hi Patsy!

15958. PelleNilsson - 7/29/2005 5:18:27 PM

Today was my last working day. As of Monday I'm officially retired.

By an odd coincidence I was struck by laryngitis on Wednesday, so all I could do at today's farewell lunch was to exude benevolence, bonhomie and the occasional croak as the (sometimes false) flattery and sentimental stories filled the air.

15959. alistairConnor - 7/29/2005 5:47:47 PM

Oh congratulations! if that's the word... are you happy about it?

What would Dr Freud say about that laryngitis? Is there some dramatic, score-settling speech that was forestalled?

15960. Ms. No - 7/29/2005 5:57:29 PM

Oh, absolutely congratulations!

I imagine Pelle can find plenty of things to keep himself occupied when no longer constrained by the schedule of a regular job.

Dare I hope this means more travelogues for the rest of us??

15961. PelleNilsson - 7/30/2005 5:57:12 PM

I have been scarce around here lately. Thanks to all for the birthday congratulations!

Yes, the other congratulations are definitely in order. As you know I am basically a telecom geek. But in recent years the technical component of our assignments has dwindled in favour of organization and management issues, due diligence undertakings and the like, areas I am familiar with but not enthusiastic about. In the overall scheme this is probably a good thing, though. It indicates that the so called developing countries are catching up in the technical field. But it caused me to examine the state of my pension schemes and when I found that I could retire without any loss of net income the choice was easy.

Yes, alistair, it has a Freudian connotation. I was at home on Wednesday and in the afternoon I started thinking about that damned speech. I have nothing against giving speeches but I knew it would be difficult to find the right tone for this one. Then Christina called to tell me she would be late home and in "answering" the phone I found I couldn't even bring out a whisper. Freud! I thought, but the real explanation is more mundane. The receptionist at the hotel in Uppsala was quite hoarse and she and I had a prolonged tête-a-tête as we poured over a city map. Of course we cannot exclude that the subconscious in its mysterious ways lowered the gates of my immune defense system. Anyhow, I'm recovering. A few minutes ago I uttered a complete sentence, albeit in a Lee Marvin-like groveling voice.

15962. SnowOwl - 7/30/2005 8:16:26 PM

Very belated birthday greetings, Pelle, and congratulations on retirement.

We have a new arrival in the family. Our new granddaughter, Isla Sinead, was born on the 5th of July. She's gorgeous.
