I've got to credit Thoughtful for the saying I used in the last line in that interview, btw: "The plural of anecdote is not data."

Starting back to work after a really busy summer catching up from several years of neglecting things around here.

I'm glad to be back working and have a routine, and I'm glad we got so much done this summer so it won't be working on our minds while school is on.

But my schedule is jam packed this year.

16175. arkymalarky - 8/12/2005 5:49:20 PM

I'm very stressed about leaving Mazie during the day. We're doing some things with her pen to make it more secure and comfortable, but I'm thinking she ought to come be my classroom pet, or maybe change our mascot and use her for that.

I never thought about Diva, because in 6 years she was so dependable and routine, and before her confining a dog in this place was never a consideration. No one pens up their dogs out here, except the hunting dogs.

erm, plans for food.

I don't tend to plan for food. It just sort of happens.

I bought some bits of dead pig to throw on the barbecue. Visitor wants barbecue. There are some potatoes I can dig up, to bake in the fire.

Nothing fancy this time. Though I feel the urge to more elaborate cuisine, I used to enjoy cooking for an appreciative audience.

16177. Magoseph - 8/12/2005 10:13:38 PM

The visitor is working hard--she would appreciate a bit of fancy cooking, I bet.

16178. Magoseph - 8/12/2005 10:14:36 PM

How was Maizie when you came home, Arky?

16179. arkymalarky - 8/13/2005 12:51:41 AM

She was fine, but I wasn't gone long. Monday's the first day she'll be home alone all day. If she stays in the yard the two big dogs (we picked up one the Sunday of the party that's as big as Mojo and ten times hairier--Mose named him Gus) will be plenty of company, as long as her pen is secure and safe.

wonkers2, misspelt werdz, bwah!

alistairConnor, There are some potatoes I can dig up, to bake in the fire.
I snorted at your Martha-Stewart-ness.

RickNelson, what a beuatiful baby. You lucky man!

Good morning, Magoseph.
I didn't do much this week, other than make a necklace of pink tourmalines. Shot through with gold spacers.

16182. Magoseph - 8/13/2005 11:39:56 AM

Tourmalines

Well, you probably didn't waste your time making that necklace, were you to sell it, Ulgine. I did nothing all week, except answering Flexy's many daily emails and many posts in his financial forums--I more than earned my keep, though.

Making Babies for France

It's not a problem to be a super mom in this country. My nieces are right on task, plugging away, similarly with much ease, a fact that never ceases to amaze my brother and that gets him ranting on the ills of France and how he never got the same deal, but nevertheless did better than these people who milk the government will ever do…etc.

16184. Magoseph - 8/13/2005 12:15:52 PM

What really worries me, though, is the fact that leaving France may very well shorten my life span.

16185. arkymalarky - 8/13/2005 5:25:39 PM

Give us a Butch update, Mags. I thought about that after I'd already logged off yesterday.

16186. Magoseph - 8/13/2005 10:28:47 PM

Butch has developed a sense of whom and what he must protect. The Jehovah woman left pamphlets for the last time this morning. The golfers don’t retrieve their lost balls anymore in the woods. No one can park in the driveway and walk up to the house without being greeted by menacing barks and six feet high jumps. We can leave the windows open at night, which is nice for me because I dislike air-conditioned when I sleep and I like the smell of fir trees. He is affectionate to both of us and we are crazy about him.

Thank for asking, Arky.

16187. arkymalarky - 8/13/2005 10:59:06 PM

That's wonderful he's working so well for you.

16188. judithathome - 8/13/2005 11:56:00 PM

It's a Miracle! You Scored

I don't believe in miracles, Ulgine. Remember, I'm a skeptic.

16189. wonkers2 - 8/14/2005 2:54:52 AM

W2 has reached a milestone. Twice in one week our local MacDonald's has offered, unsolicited, the 42-cent senior price for a cup of coffee! I guess it's analogous to when bartenders stopped asking for ID.

16190. judithathome - 8/14/2005 9:42:27 AM

Well, look at the time stamp on this post. I am like a raving insomniac.

16191. arkymalarky - 8/14/2005 3:49:03 PM

My summer routine: up around 8:30 or so, mosey around, have a dish of ice cream and water for breakfast on the patio, take the golf cart around the trail, head to the house as it warms up, get on the computer, turn on the tv, piddle around the house and cover a project or two (today it's getting this room in order--finally--after switching from upstairs to downstairs), grab something to eat from the kitchen when ever I get hungry, have a glass of wine and an evening golf cart ride, hot bath, and bed.

It all ends tomorrow. But it will stay the weekend routine as long as weather permits. Then I (FINALLY!!!) start graduate school this spring--just one class--then I'm picking up 12 hours through an ESL program this summer, with plans to be done by the summer of '07.

16192. Magoseph - 8/14/2005 4:13:44 PM

I listened to your radio appearance this morning, Arky, and I agree with Wonkers that you did very well. Now, tell me, are planning to teach ESL in your school?
