So this first week of school has really been draining, as all the first weeks are for me. Bob likes to get to work early, and I like to leave at the last minute. I got my way when we worked and commuted together, but I don't think I would now. I relax with coffee and Mazie between when Bob leaves and when I have to leave.
I'm getting far more sleep now than I have in several years, since the surgery, and it's wonderful. I'd gotten so uncomfortable, besides being so busy and stressed, that I rarely got over three or four total hours of sleep a night.
My dad, who's very healthy and active, sleeps to around 10am every day. I'd have never thought he'd want to do that when he retired. Magoseph - 8/28/2005 10:30:25 AM What was on the menu, Judith? 16346. thoughtful - 8/28/2005 1:32:43 PM Thanks for all the kinds wishes...hubby talked to folks at the home and they want to call in hospice for her...apparently they're given a lot more freedom for treating the terminal with pain meds than the std nursing home is, though the nurse in charge is doing everything she can to make sure MIL is not suffering.
It's just crappy though, the whole thing. Hospice has been a great benefit to the few I've known who had it. Hopefully the process toward that will go very fast. 16348. arkymalarky - 8/28/2005 3:46:03 PM Took the MAT yesterday, and was lucky to get in on it under a special program where it was free. The GRE would have cost $200, or it was that much last I looked several years ago. It's probably higher now.
Now I've just got to finish filling out the paperwork and I'll be ready to register for a class this spring, then I'll get 12 hours this summer under another free program (a very intense seminar on working with ESL students and families).

I loved that test, and I know it was a better one for me to take than the GRE would have been. In fact, I wasn't going to mention it (;-)), but we got our scores as soon as we finished the test, because it's on the computer now, and I ranked in the 99th percentile, so I was thrilled. The lady said it was the highest she'd ever seen. Wish I had options to do something more in graduate school than I have right now.

In the short term I'm aiming for the raise--$7000 a year--in time enough to get the benefit for my retirement plan, which uses the highest three years of my salary as a teacher to determine my retirement. I can retire in four years with full benefits, and can work part time or full time on something else, or take some time off, or just quit working. It's not the field I would have chosen, but I'm limited by time, location, and monoey, and I would be fine with the work if I chose to use the degree (curriculum and instruction, with an ESL emphasis), but the course of study is not very interesting. I may also look into law school after I retire, in order to do more with rural education in Arkansas.

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't find that sentence very illuminating as to your scholarly intentions.
