16579. Ms. No - 9/13/2005 6:03:09 PM No, you really can't tool that stuff that I know of. I imagine you could mark up the leather somehow, but it wouldn't be the same process. For something as intricate as Morris' designs I'd think it would definitely have to be tooled. Maybe if you had a big press or something with a design plate, but I've no idea how that would work.
The steer-head piece will be attached to the front flap of a suede bag that I made from a Tandy kit. That's pretty much the only way I know of to get tooled patterns onto soft leather - via applique. I suppose you could brand/burn patterns into suede and deerskin, but I've no idea how to go about it and the very idea of what that would smell like just turns my stomach.
I picked up the kit on a whim and while it turned out like it was supposed to I don't really like the design much. It's too small for my tastes and there's too much stuff hanging off the shoulder strap. I did learn a lot about putting such a bag together, though and it helped me to figure out my own pattern. The main thing I have to worry about is that I don't make a bag too large for the weight of leather I'm using. Leather's strong and durable but it can be overstressed and eventually tear.

Friday, I loaded up on wool for my brother’s long-promised sweater and got myself bamboozled in knitting a long “cables heart stitch” pullover for my loving daughter-in-law. The last two days were pretty much spent looking for my knitting paraphernalia, which I found in the last box of all the boxes and knitting the back of the long pullover.
I am actually itching to stitch now, so I will see you all when I get tired of knitting. Thanks all for the feedback on Butch’s ungodly smell.

Ha! My parents lived in Folsom for about a year. Their neighborhood was at one end of the charming historic downtown. If they were still there I'd definitely have a place to market my goods. My mom and I used to visit the quilting shop there just to be amazed at the displays. For a bit my mother actually thought she was going to get into quilting. I'd love to see some of your knitting. I'm always amazed that anyone can make patterns in clothes out of a ball of string. At one point I thought I'd learn to knit --- I was due for jury duty and figured it would help pass the time --- but I was hopeless. I couldn't keep things regular enough or tight enough and all I was trying to do was make a baby blanket. Then I found out that I wouldn't be able to take knitting needles into the courthouse so I'd have to abandon my plan and then I never did find myself in the exact position to force myself to practice until I improved.
So somewhere in my apartment there are skeins of coral and butter-yellow yarn and a couple pairs of knitting needles that have hardly been used. 16589.
