Our village has about 300 feral cats and in one year, that can mean 2,000 more will inhabit the village.
We had an organization come (Feral Friends) and present us with a proposal to work with a local vet to spay and neuter the cats...providing traps and having residents take the cats to the vet for the procedures and releasing them back into the wild (village) where they will eventually die of attrition. I thought this was a fantastic proposal...the vet would charge the village $45 for each cat's treatment, including shots. Well, one of the buffoons on the council decided we should table the suggestion and here we are, one more cycle later, more feral cats and more little families later...and nothing has been done.
Some of the villagers balked at having to bring them back to the neighborhood, saying they'd rather have them killed. To me, the idea of them being released back made sense because they could keep other cats away and would keep the mouse and rat population at bay. 16821. marjoribanks - 10/1/2005 3:55:02 AM Congratulations, Jenerator. 16822. 16827. Macnas - 10/3/2005 2:24:25 PM English comedian, died a few years ago. On stage actually, just fell down in the middle of a routine, everyone thought it was part of his act.
A lot of it is just old music hall type gags, old hat to some. But he always made me laugh, and I like his word play jokes, as that kind of thing appeals to me:
"You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving
today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine.' So that was nice."
He would do the most awful magic tricks, and just looked funny. I remember watching him on television as a youngster, the set was totally darkened, all you hear is him walking to one side of the set, then he sighs and says "its dark in here", after a second he walks over to the other side of the set, "......its dark over here as well".
While I like more barbed, sometimes surreal modern comdedy too, like The League Of Gentleman, Cooper is one of my very favourites.
"So I got home, and the phone was ringing. I
picked it up, and said 'Who's speaking please?
And a voice said 'You are.'" 16828. Interestingly when I participate in the Mote, or when I briefly participated at TPW, I get deeply depressed. So, I've stayed away. I was commenting in Ace's Comments/Forum fairly actively, but that recently got depressing as well. Continuous agressive blindness and ad hominem in support of partisan political positions seems to put me in a blue funk.
