18075. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 8:54:04 PM My mother always talked about her favorite perfume by richard hudnut ... to give you an idea of how long ago we're talking. She said nothing else had that wonderfully soft fragrance and she misses it to this day. Scents are very powerful things.
That boston cream pie sounds sinful.
But this is all very bad.
See, I weighed myself this a.m. and i have a LOT of work to do. I really let myself go over the holidays, not to mention having allowed myself some weight creep in the few months before the holiday.
And I still have a fair amount of that 72% chocolate hubby bought me for xmas.
This ain't going to be easy!
Waiter, pour me another glass of water, straight up! 18076. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 8:57:34 PM I've still got two Key Lime pies in my fridge that I'm trying to offload somewhere. I know my next door neighbor would take one but he's still out of town for the holiday.
I may just bring them to the office and ruin my co-workers' diets. 18077. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 9:02:44 PM Yum I love key lime pies! 18078. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 9:05:49 PM Well, I'd send you one if I thought it would make the trip. In consolation I'll put the recipe in Good Life and you can indulge at some later date.;-> 18079. Magoseph - 1/3/2006 9:10:46 PM I suppose the cabbage pastries refer to “Choux à la Crème”—When I was a kid, we had every Christmas a “Pièce montée” made with them and also a “ Bûche de Noël”, which is a kind of cake made to look like a log, rolled with some delicious stuffing and decorated with chocolate and green icing. 18080. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 9:45:48 PM Choux a la Creme...is that what we call a cream puff? 18081. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 9:46:05 PM recipe looks yummy msno...thanks! 18082. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 9:47:45 PM Cream puff
18083. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 9:48:37 PM I will get cravings for a cream puff....but has to be made with real whipped heavy cream to satisfy and MUST be dusted with powdered sugar. One of my faves! 18084. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 10:23:06 PM I'm a sucker for biegnets. They make a variation at the Grand Lux Cafe served with chocolate, raspberry and Jack Daniels sauces on the side. I just skip the chocolate and mix and match the other two.
Sinfully delicious as they are, they don't even come close to real NO biegnets, but one makes do as one must. sob!
18085. Jenerator - 1/3/2006 10:28:16 PM Gimlets are back in style.
18086. Jenerator - 1/3/2006 10:32:18 PM As are Pavlovas
18087. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 10:32:18 PM mmmm! Gimlet!! 18088. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 10:32:41 PM My last day of work before the holidays was 12/16 and today is my first day back. Man is this tough...this is the longest day ever.
Those 2+ weeks went by so quickly and I find myself hankering for more.
Is it time to go home yet? 18089. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 10:33:43 PM One of the xmas parties we went to had a trifle made with whipped cream and choc cake...it was so yummy. Gotta get that recipe! 18090. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 10:36:07 PM Right now I'm thinking I won't have to shop for a year. Pasta baskets are apparently the in thing as far as corporate gifts go this year so I've got a cupboard overflowing with exotic pastas, olive, nut and sun-dried tomato pestos, biscotti and herbed olive oils.
I like this trend a LOT! 18091. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 10:37:06 PM Jen, that pavolova is beautiful! Makes me crave strawberries. 18092. judithathome - 1/3/2006 10:40:46 PM We got some sundried tomatoes for the party...I had planned to use hearty crackers with some creamcheese and a smear of sun dried tomato but people started arriving early and that plan went by the wayside.
Oh well...I'll do it for the next gathering of friends....later this month.
They were handing these out at CostCo on plain Ritz crackers and they were delicious so I figured the hearty crackers would make them even more so. 18093. thoughtful - 1/3/2006 10:42:52 PM I bought a foccacia bread in the store and drizzled it with olive oil (it was already loaded with parm cheese and herbs) and put some sun-dried tomatoes on it and baked in a hot oven for about 10 min before cutting into squares and serving with drinks. 18094. Ms. No - 1/3/2006 10:43:17 PM T'ful,
I feel for you. I'm bemoaning the fact that this is the last in a month of 4 day work weeks. Do you have a planned retirement date yet or is that still too far in the future for you to consider?
