19116. anomie - 4/7/2006 8:31:05 PM Had a similar experience in England once, Judith. We saw a man pulling a screaming kid, 3 or 4 years old, through a parking garage. My GF noted the license plate and called the police. They had the courtesy to call back and tell her it was the child's grandfather and everything was fine. They thanked her for calling.
Ya never know... 19117. jexster - 4/8/2006 5:50:52 PM The latest in Birthday Cards
here
Yes it is (sigh)
thank you.. 19118. arkymalarky - 4/8/2006 6:08:59 PM Your birthday? Happy birthday! 19119. wabbit - 4/8/2006 6:40:34 PM Happy birthday, jexster! 19120. wonkers2 - 4/8/2006 7:17:35 PM Happy birthday, Jexter! 19121. jexster - 4/8/2006 8:01:18 PM What's so damned happy about 54, 53, 52....40?
Condolence more appropriate but thanks anyway. At least I get a yuck at Cheney's expense! 19122. arkymalarky - 4/8/2006 8:56:44 PM It's probably an old joke, but an old favorite superintendent of mine used to tell us at the beginning of the school year that when you wake up, raise your hands up above your head. If you don't feel the inside lid of a coffin it's a good day. 19123. judithathome - 4/9/2006 2:54:41 AM Happy Birthday, Jex...you old coot! ;-) 19124. judithathome - 4/9/2006 2:56:02 AM Freakish thing happened at dinner tonight: a woman at another table kept looking at me and it started to get almost creepy...there were 10 of us and I thought at first she was looking at the two 20 somethings sitting next to me...our friends sons, very cute college guys.
After dinner, she and her husband and three little kids went up to pay and while he was paying, she can up to our table and said "Excuse me...you look so familiar to me." So I told her my name and she asked if I had ever lived on _______ street and I said yes...she introduced herself and said she grew up next door to me. I nearly fainted! This was the little girl next door when my son was in high school and she was about 10-12. The last time I saw her, she was maybe 14.
I told her I couldn't believe she recognized me and she said "I'd never forget you...I always wished you'd been my mother." I nearly fainted! 19125. Magoseph - 4/9/2006 12:58:44 PM Good morning, I have to catch up here, but it has to wait because duty calls. Flexy wants to take a turn around the area and see the new constructions. We're taking Smootch (ex-Butch) with us. 19126. RIckNelson - 4/10/2006 2:02:34 PM Happy Birthday Jexter!
40! That's the one with reservations. I tried to ignore it, tried to belittle it's existance. Then, the family had to drag me to my brothers where they had planned a suprise party for me. I was conveniently late.
I was putting in my new front door, and why the heck was my daughter telling me I had to get over to my brothers? She called four times. I kept on that I was going to finish this damn door. Then I was told of the people waiting for me. I had to board up my door entry and go. I just cannot forget that day.
Judith, too scary about that boy. Gotta hope he was just being obnoxious?
And why can't the police find that liscence? Seems very odd?
I'm glad to see the names of so many in here. 19127. Magoseph - 4/10/2006 2:49:51 PM Good norning, Rick, glad to see that your kids are doing well.
Good luck to Flexy, Mags.
Thanks, Arky, he’ll have two operations, the first one tomorrow around noon.
Hello, Wonk!
How in the world did you wrangle this concession out of him?
Ms. No, this was a situation that definitely required blackmail.
What's so damned happy about 54, 53, 52....40?
Jex, nothing and I offer you my belated condolences.
...I always wished you'd been my mother."
That’s it, Judith, instead of moving near the eldest son eventually, we’ll be moving near your neighbor. the youngest son.
19128. arkymalarky - 4/10/2006 11:04:27 PM Hey all. First day back at work after spring break and I hit the ground running, but it was a good day. Except I didn't get everything done I'd planned, but that's the way it goes from the end of spring break to the end of school, so I take it in stride.
Rick, 30 bothered me a lot, and I thought 40 would but it didn't. I don't think about it any more, other than to wonder which birthday is the one that begins my life of leisure. ;-) 19129. arkymalarky - 4/10/2006 11:12:13 PM That's really great that you made such an impression on a young person and get to find out so many years later. You really never know how importantly you impact people (good or bad), and I can imagine you being a mom other kids would love to have.
I may have told this before, but Bob and I were in the Truck Stop several years ago and this big black man--at least 6'6"--came bounding up to him with a huge grin and said "BOB!" Bob looked around, but didn't have a clue who he was. He said, "Don't you remember me? Banana! (his school nickname) You saved my life on the bus!"
Turned out when Bob was in high school this guy was a little 6 year old kid just starting school and he was tormented by the "big kids" (not because he was black but because he was small--a ritual Bob and many other little kids had undergone over the years). Bob would have "Banana" sit by him on the bus and wouldn't let anyone bully him. Bob would have never guessed who he was, since he had last known him as a scared little 6 year old. 19130. judithathome - 4/10/2006 11:36:42 PM C'mon, Mags, I want you to move next door to ME!
Arky, that's a great story about Banana! 19131. arkymalarky - 4/10/2006 11:42:47 PM Like your encounter, it was a really wonderful experience for Bob to see how he'd made a difference from a kid's perspective once that kid was an adult. 19132. judithathome - 4/10/2006 11:48:44 PM Yes, it was certainly an impact! 19133. OhioSTOPAS - 4/11/2006 10:59:00 AM Good morning everybody! Back from Florida (Great week; the only negative was that traffic was a bitch on Route 75!). Thank you all for the good wishes.
Judith, hope your leg continues to get better.
Jex, is April 8 your birthday? Mine too!! Happy birthday to us!!! 19134. Magoseph - 4/11/2006 10:44:26 PM Glad you had a good time, Ohio.
Flexy's eye surgery today canceled, postponed until May 18--Hard day, see you tomorrow. 19135. judithathome - 4/12/2006 1:30:09 AM Hope everything is okay, Magos!
