19128. arkymalarky - 4/10/2006 11:04:27 PM Hey all. First day back at work after spring break and I hit the ground running, but it was a good day. Except I didn't get everything done I'd planned, but that's the way it goes from the end of spring break to the end of school, so I take it in stride.
Rick, 30 bothered me a lot, and I thought 40 would but it didn't. I don't think about it any more, other than to wonder which birthday is the one that begins my life of leisure. ;-) 19129. arkymalarky - 4/10/2006 11:12:13 PM That's really great that you made such an impression on a young person and get to find out so many years later. You really never know how importantly you impact people (good or bad), and I can imagine you being a mom other kids would love to have.
I may have told this before, but Bob and I were in the Truck Stop several years ago and this big black man--at least 6'6"--came bounding up to him with a huge grin and said "BOB!" Bob looked around, but didn't have a clue who he was. He said, "Don't you remember me? Banana! (his school nickname) You saved my life on the bus!"
Turned out when Bob was in high school this guy was a little 6 year old kid just starting school and he was tormented by the "big kids" (not because he was black but because he was small--a ritual Bob and many other little kids had undergone over the years). Bob would have "Banana" sit by him on the bus and wouldn't let anyone bully him. Bob would have never guessed who he was, since he had last known him as a scared little 6 year old. 19130. judithathome - 4/10/2006 11:36:42 PM C'mon, Mags, I want you to move next door to ME!
Arky, that's a great story about Banana! 19131. arkymalarky - 4/10/2006 11:42:47 PM Like your encounter, it was a really wonderful experience for Bob to see how he'd made a difference from a kid's perspective once that kid was an adult. 19132. judithathome - 4/10/2006 11:48:44 PM Yes, it was certainly an impact! 19133. OhioSTOPAS - 4/11/2006 10:59:00 AM Good morning everybody! Back from Florida (Great week; the only negative was that traffic was a bitch on Route 75!). Thank you all for the good wishes.
Judith, hope your leg continues to get better.
Jex, is April 8 your birthday? Mine too!! Happy birthday to us!!! 19134. Magoseph - 4/11/2006 10:44:26 PM Glad you had a good time, Ohio.
Flexy's eye surgery today canceled, postponed until May 18--Hard day, see you tomorrow. 19135. judithathome - 4/12/2006 1:30:09 AM Hope everything is okay, Magos! 19136. arkymalarky - 4/12/2006 5:22:59 AM I hope they didn't find a problem, Mags, and I hope you're able to fill us in later.
I just got settled in after being in class over 3 hours--one tomorrow night, too--and had to Mote a little before bed--better than a toddy.
Hey OHIO!!!! Happy birthday! Hope it was a great one. 19137. Magoseph - 4/12/2006 9:45:21 AM Arky, Judith, thank you for your good wishes--- Flexy did not feel well enough, the surgeon said. He must rest and he will be checked May 10 and if everything is all right, the removal of the cataracts will proceed in two-steps, starting May 18.
Hi, Mac!
19138. Macnas - 4/12/2006 9:52:21 AM Hello Mago.
Lucky Flexy, to have you there as the first thing he see's when the scales are removed from his eyes. 19139. SnowOwl - 4/13/2006 9:12:46 AM Belated birthday wishes to Jexter and Ohio.
Sorry to hear about Flexy's surgery being cancelled, Mago. I hope all goes well for him when the next surgery is scheduled.
19140. Jenerator - 4/13/2006 10:52:56 PM Is WX down? 19141. judithathome - 4/14/2006 12:05:30 AM It is for me... 19142. Jenerator - 4/14/2006 4:41:20 PM Ohio - mine is on the 8th as well.
The three of us should have a party.
;-) 19143. Magoseph - 4/15/2006 7:48:20 AM Lucky Flexy, to have you there as the first thing he see's when the scales are removed from his eyes.
You’re very kind, Mac, but you know, not everyone we know would agree with you. Nothing will convince some people that I married him because I love him. It’s more convenient (or more fun) for them to believe that, eleven years ago, I came back to him with nefarious plans for his demise.
19144. Magoseph - 4/15/2006 7:48:57 AM Snow, thank you for wishing the best for Flexy--I read that you’re taking a big trip again and could be in the US. Am I correct?
Another question, did I ever discuss with you Ian McEwan’s Atonement?
19145. anomie - 4/15/2006 11:40:57 AM Good book, Mago? I read Amsterdam years ago. I think it was his first one or maybe won the Booker prize. 19146. anomie - 4/15/2006 11:41:56 AM Belated Happy Birthdays. In the words of Yahoo, may this event, "repeat every year". 19147. anomie - 4/15/2006 11:48:09 AM I thought I should post an update on the assignment to Italy since I discussed it here about 4 weeks ago. I haven't heard anything, and it has been a month since the first referral, so I'm assuming I didn't get it, which is fine because I had all but decided to decline the offer anyway. I could still get the call, but it's not likely at this point.
The good news is that I should be settled in Vegas by the end of the year, so anyone who had planned to stop by in Italy is welcome to detour to the west a wee bit.
