Bubba, yes the 9/11 aftermath... balkanized us. It's as if we were a Bosnian village, people of different origins and differing opinions who had our differences and our fights, but always managed to get along more or less... despite the brawls and the agitated town meetings.

In the aftermath, that broke down, a lot of people just weren't interested in making the effort to coexist, on the contrary it seemed that it became important to choose sides and designate enemies.

Hello Mago and eveybody, I've popped in now and then but to be honest I couldn't be bothered to post, as like Pelle, I'd nothing much to say.

I still don't, but that never stopped anyone.

20170. Magoseph - 9/12/2006 11:40:50 AM

Hi, Mac!

I remember a time when I was trying to get our Diva back here how you answered many posts of mine, thereby encouraging me to pursue the campaign to revive this thread. That was two and half years ago and since, this thread got about 13,500 posts, not a mean feat considering how small is our Mote. Even though many of these posts consisted of just writing short greetings to one another, they kept us in touch. If we were working in the same place, a smile from you and a Hello, Mago! while passing each other in the corridors would make my day, you know.

Now, Mac, trying to edit the above, I realize that I'm bragging. To be honest, I have mulled about since we reached the 20,000 posts how I could bring about the fact that we did rather well from the time I became the host and dear Mac, you gave me the chance. I'm rather shallow when it comes to get credit for most everything I do.

20171. Macnas - 9/12/2006 11:55:00 AM

Nobody more deserving of credit than you Mago.

If it was left up to me, this place would be a wasteland.

Hey alla y'all. What's shaking? I just got a puppy about a month ago. The geriatric hund passed away last winter and it seemed time. His name is Harlan and he's a chow/sheppard/god knows what and cute as a button.

20173. bubbaette - 9/12/2006 12:58:53 PM

Also, Alistair, it wasn't so much choose sides and designate enemies for me, it was overload. It was like a magnification of the dialog's extremes that I was hearing and feeling so much in my day to day -- I just had to tune out.

20174. wonkers2 - 9/12/2006 3:18:31 PM

Ulgine, you should write more poetry. You have the imaginative mind for it.

20175. wonkers2 - 9/12/2006 3:22:07 PM

Bubbaette, as I recall you were working for the state (VA?)government. What are you doing now? I occasionally represent claimants in unemployment compensatin administrative law judge hearings. I get to play Perry Mason two or three times a month. Great fun. Except I don't sleep well the night before a hearing. All sorts of "what ifs" keep popping into my mind.

20176. bubbaette - 9/12/2006 5:38:34 PM

Wonkers

I used to work for the employment commission, doing legislation and regulations. This past January I was given an appointment by the new Governor and am now a political appointee through 2010 -- God willing and the creek don't rise. I'm still doing legislation and regulations, only for 13 agencies instead of one. I'm friends with the chief ALJ for unemployment here in Va.

Congrats on the appointment, Bubba, and the new puppy! I love new puppies. Mose just got one and she's adorable. I think that's why I like having a little dog (and we have two big "puppies" that stay outside). Mazie's like having a house-trained puppy.

Hello, everyone--we're getting ready for Flexy's Vascular Study this morning. I hope this procedure will have a good result because I dread an operation on his carotid vein. We know several persons who had it and did well consequently, but they were younger than Flexy. We won't know today what the result will be--these waiting periods are hard on my nerves which were sorely tested lately.

Aside from all that happened in our lives these eight past months, we are more happy than ever together--Of course, the fear of losing the other makes every moment precious. So. Moties, have a happy day!

20179. wonkers2 - 9/13/2006 1:06:27 PM

Bubbaette, congrats on your appointment. I had a similar appointment in Michigan, but didn't get reappointed at the end of my 5-year term. As a friend who is politically "connected" put it, somebody else had more juice.

20180. bubbaette - 9/13/2006 3:10:20 PM

I don't think I'm interested in reappointment -- I'm working my ass off. But it's all about the public service, right?

20181. judithathome - 9/13/2006 3:49:21 PM

Well, Klaus is still holding his own around here...I think he doesn't even miss the big tree or notice it's gone. I've been saying he's 18 but he won't be 18 until this Christmas...my math skills are lacking.

Bubba and Arky, I don't think I have the energy for a puppy...after Klaus, we will be petless.

20182. arkymalarky - 9/13/2006 10:41:05 PM

I can certainly understand that. My parents got Suzie intending to keep her until Mose lived where she could have a puppy, but now they're too attached and Mose actually has her own now. She's needed it, too. It's been a rough couple of months for her.

18! That's amazing. He's sure a sweetheart.

20183. arkymalarky - 9/13/2006 10:43:40 PM

Let us know how things go, Mags. I hope the results are good.

20184. judithathome - 9/13/2006 10:44:09 PM

Some days he is...others he's a grouchy old coot!
