I'm looking for a word...

similar to revisionist, but not from the context of trying to intentionally obfuscate the truth, but just from the context of trying to sanitize the truth to make something more palatable to an audience.

21784. arkymalarky - 5/12/2007 6:17:16 AM

truthiness?

21785. arkymalarky - 5/12/2007 6:17:47 AM

Thanks Robert!

No.. there is a word, but I can't place it.

What I'm thinking about, for instance, is the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which makes them far more protagonistic than they were in real life, but the point of the movie wasn't to revise the story behind them, it was just to make a movie that more people would want to watch.

21787. arkymalarky - 5/12/2007 4:06:10 PM

sugarcoating?

21788. alistairconnor - 5/12/2007 6:43:45 PM

euphemism?

21789. alistairconnor - 5/12/2007 7:04:26 PM

Congratulations to Ohio, and to the Arkettes!

Ohio, getting out of residential mortgage lending sounds like a good career move to me.

Thanks Alistair!

Bought myself a graduation present of a Blackberry 8800 today.

Crapitall,

Al, I accidentally deleted your email while trying to reply to it (I'm really showing that I'm the type of person who should own a Blackberry, here).

I gave you my cell phone #, so if you can holler at me on it Monday morning and leave a return # on a voice mail if I don't answer, I'll holler back asap.

Monday's good, except that place doesn't open until 3, so if your favorite is open for lunch I'm fine with it or any place else downtown.

I hope you're where you can read all this. If not, I hope you have my # with you.

iiibbb,

You're right, there is a word and now I can't think of it either and it will keep me up all night. Two weeks from now I'll suddenly shout out "WORD!" in the middle of something else and everyone will look at me like I'm out of my mind.

But I'll be sure to come back here and tell you what it is. ;->

Arky,

Congrats to you and Mose!

21794. arkymalarky - 5/13/2007 4:48:09 AM

Still working on the word... came up with placative, but I still don't think that has quite the right contextural meaning. It works, but just barely.

21797. iiibbb - 5/13/2007 2:17:45 PM

placative implies the audience would have some animosity toward the protagonist. I'm thinking of a neutral audience that doesn't have many, if any, preconcieved ideas.

Hooray, this card means money to buy books!

21801. wabbit - 5/13/2007 11:44:48 PM

I hadn't heard about Standing Women. At 1pm, I was standing at the kitchen counter making Eggs Benedict for my mother, siblings and nieces. We'll try for next year.

Meanwhile, I hope all the mother's had a happy mother's day!

21802. wabbit - 5/13/2007 11:47:01 PM

Also, congratulations to Ohio and the Malarky women!
