21997. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 6:41:33 AM jex's thread 21998. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 6:41:46 AM was 21999. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 6:41:56 AM close 22000. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 6:42:06 AM too 22001. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 6:42:38 AM I'm headed there, then I'll be calling it a night. 22002. iiibbb - 6/14/2007 10:48:33 AM At least with the salary I'd be getting (plus hers) we'd be living pretty good lives there.
Culturally it may be limited even for me. I have spent time in Jesup, Midville, and Hinesville, GA... so I've been worse but for much shorter stints. 22003. thoughtful - 6/14/2007 1:37:56 PM I've never been to ole miss, but it is different living in the deep south. My one short visit to the new orleans area, I remember getting off the plain with a new orleaner behind me. As we got onto the jetway with the heavy humidity whacking us in the face like a hot wet blanket, the woman behind me said to her companion, "Oh it feels so good to be back in the humidity again...that dry air up north just doesn't seem healthy." (read with appropriate deep southern accent). 22004. jexster - 6/14/2007 4:28:28 PM Channel surfing saw an MTV video Green Day...sounds so exactly like the original they close with the last 2 lines of JL's original
I hadn't thought of this song in at least 30 years..I mean not even once...it's a classic
Working Class Hero
22005. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 4:51:12 PM One of Bob's personal favorites. I've heard it a few times and told Bob Green Day had redone it, but he hasn't had a chance to hear it yet. Covers are a mixed bag, but I like theirs--much better than R.E.M.'s #9 Dream. 22006. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 4:54:13 PM Relative to the poverty there, people who make good money do VERY well in MS, and in many parts of AR. Will you be in the Delta? 22007. jexster - 6/14/2007 4:55:06 PM Green Day did a wonderful job....the video was some sort of mish mash Darfur bleeding heart liberal Wonkers BS but the music was excellent 22008. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 4:58:31 PM I haven't seen the video, which is probably a good thing. Though I generally love music videos. Bob hates them. I haven't turned on the tv since April, I don't think. 22009. jexster - 6/14/2007 5:02:58 PM The Delta? Thanks but no thanks Arky- been there done that and read Sartoris, The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, Absalom, Absalom!, Go Down, Moses, and The Reivers in high school...religious education dontcha know 22010. jexster - 6/14/2007 5:55:18 PM Bob and I have remarkably similar tastes in music Ark
Green Day Video Version here 22011. betty - 6/16/2007 12:15:10 AM Short Clip of Marilyn Manson's version ...
The Marianne Faithfull version which reminds me of Tina Turner.
Racoon do their version at 5:30 on Pauw & Witteman a Dutch TV Show.
Some kids got together at their mom's place to play tribute to JL
They have working class heroes in France too.
And She-Bops to the classic.
This guy is Turkish, I think, but I am a stupid American and can't tell.
A girl who shops at Hot Topic lip syncs to the Chipmunks version.
I suppose I can stomach the Green Day version, but only if the video stars Mario. 22012. Ulgine Barrows - 6/16/2007 10:38:38 AM heh. I wasn't around, or I'd have raced you, larky.
22000. arkymalarky - 6/14/2007 6:42:06 AM
too 22013. arkymalarky - 6/18/2007 6:54:46 AM I love the Green Day version, but I don't know about the rest. I'd have never looked to hear any but Lennon's, but happening to hear it, I loved it, though covers are such a mixed bag in general. I usually am prepared not to like them. I'm don't like any Manson covers I've heard. But what little of him I have heard, covers or not, was deadly dull. 22014. arkymalarky - 6/18/2007 6:55:41 AM Hey Ulgine! I was winding down from a late (but EXTREMELY productive) meeting that night. 22015. arkymalarky - 6/18/2007 7:05:09 AM OKAY: I had the BEST time with Judith and Keoni. No surprise there, but it was the first relaxing get-away I've had in a long time, and it was all wonderful. Their house and yard were fantastic and Harley was a blast. The play was very funny, the dinner afterward with their friends and Judith's son was relaxing and fun, and our shopping today was fun and productive. I've been a jeans/t-shirt person for months now (I've been one for years, but this has become a daily uniform), and I got several things, mostly blouses, that I love. I have needed a weekend like that for a while now, and they have been SO gracious! How gracious, you may ask?
Well, first, never go Amtrak. For any reason. Never. My train Friday was supposed to leave at 4:20AM. It left at about 3:00PM. So they had to come get me at the Ft. Worth station at around 10:30PM. Today it was supposed to leave Ft. Worth at 2:30PM. When we left to meet Bob half-way to my house at Sulfur Springs, it still hadn't arrived when I called out of curiosity. When we left after dinner at Sulfer Springs and I called after 9:30PM, it still hadn't gotten to Ft. Worth.
Thanks for letting us know you got home Judith. I'd have called you, but it was almost 12:30. You two are rare gems! 22016. thoughtful - 6/18/2007 1:54:59 PM So glad you guys had a nice time.
Happy Anniversary to us
Happy Anniversary to us
Happy Anniversary dear Tful and hubby
Happy Anniversary to us.
29 years and still counting.
I offer up 2 secrets to our success:
1. Whenever anything goes wrong, don't blame each other...blame the cat.
2. Don't ever split up. If you do, that means one of you will get stuck with the cat!
