Did you miss me?

22038. wonkers2 - 6/20/2007 11:27:19 PM

Of course we did. Somebody has been sending us weather that's a bit too hot lately. We had to turn on our air conditioners for the first time three days ago. Please try to send us cool weather for the weekend.

22039. Ms. No - 6/20/2007 11:33:08 PM

Just received word that we'll be recording the interview with Cap Radio tomorrow but it won't air until next Thursday.

Hi Mago!

I did! I missed you!

Cap'n Dirty sez, "Ms. No, don't get carried away in your love scene!"

22042. jabrre - 6/21/2007 1:40:42 PM

Those of you might remember me by my old username at The Fray. It was "cartmhan". So, its good to be back, though its in a form of a new username.

22043. wabbit - 6/21/2007 1:43:49 PM

Hey jabrre, welcome back!

Re. 22042 -

I do. Welcome back.

Today I won the case in the German Shepherd bite bench trial against the defendent who went down insisting that he wasn't responsible for his dog biting me. However, the state's assistant attorney who represented me presented a less than energetic case, IMO. She didn't enter any evidence except my testimony, even though I had brought photographs of the injuries I sustained, a plat showing that I was never on the dog owner's property, or the medical records showing the emergency treatment I subsequently received.

I stayed around to listen to the case that she argued after mine, which was based solely on the testimony of a ten year old child. The assistant state's attorney's case was that a pair of neighbor's (small) dogs were seen crossing over into the complainant's property. Supposedly the ten year old boy (who may not have been wearing his glasses at the time) could identify these two dogs as being the defendant's dogs through a window at a distance. the defendants demurred, saying they were taking the dogs for a walk on leashes at the time. The case was dismissed, needless to say, but not before the attorneys for each side called their opponents and their lawyers liars.

I suspect that the Assistant State's Attorney was suffering from what I term 'Nifong Syndrome', where if the complainant is young and/or female and cute enough, all credulity is suspended, but if one is an adult white male, he is to be taken for granted at best.

Saying of the day:

"If you can remember the '60's, you weren't really there."

22050. concerned - 6/22/2007 3:47:23 AM

Btw, Jackson and Sharpton owe the public statements on Nifong's disbarment for prosecutorial misconduct.

Re. 22048 -

Just to be exact, the boy claimed that he saw these dogs running loose.

so you're saying that in the US, what actually happens in the courts is the functional equivalent of Iranian legal doctrine, where a woman's testimony is worth exactly half that of a man's?

22053. alistairconnor - 6/22/2007 11:06:57 AM

Hey I remember the 60s. I was too young to do drugs.

22054. jabrre - 6/22/2007 9:10:23 PM

Its good to be back in here. I missed you all whiles I was away.

I am having a Graveyard shift job, so whenever I come home, its usually Breakfast or Brunch and then...hit the sack. Thankfully, I dont have to get to the point to watch programming on the telly. I have my DirecTV R DVR to do recording for me.

22055. thoughtful - 6/22/2007 10:51:25 PM

Welcome back jabrre...always nice to "see" a familiar name around these joints.

22056. judithathome - 6/24/2007 10:30:56 PM

Keoni is really sick...how do I know? He has slept the entire weekend and is cancelling his business appointments tomorrow.

Arky, remember the cough? He still has it and has run a high fever every night since last Sunday...on the upside, we have both quit smoking.
