I left Baton Rouge in 1953 and have only been back a few times since. Hank Williams was king when I was there.

Gee I didn't think you were THAT old Wonkers!

Hells bells that was just about when I arrived from Bethesda Naval

Cajun swamp pop musician John Fred was born John Fred Gourrier on May 8, 1941, in Baton Rouge. In the late 1950s he formed John Fred and His Playboy Band (also known as John Fred and the Playboys). Originally, the group performed around South Louisiana and East Texas, recording popular R&B-type tunes like "Shirley" (1959) and "Good Lovin’" (1959, written by Bobby Charles of Abbeville). In the mid-1960s, however, Fred and his group made a successful transition to the Beatles-esque, and recorded the psychedelic international hit "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)" in 1967. (The song was inspired by the Beatles’ "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.") In the 1990s Fred teamed up with G. G. Shinn (originally of Franklin) and Joe Stampley of Springhill (in north Louisiana) to form The Louisiana Boys, which issued an album and performed at venues like the Louisiana Folklife Festival.

How did I not hear about the Stax re-issue? I have been living under a rock for the last few years.

Now I've gotta go try to find that on e-bay.

We watched the Eddie Izzard marathon all day long and went to the mall and had Blizzards there...then, we came home and made hot dogs!

Very American holiday...ha!

22183. Ms. No - 7/5/2007 3:36:56 PM

I adore Eddie Izzard!

I hit two gatherings yesterday and ran into some people I hadn't seen in years and years. It was really nice, but I wish I had another couple hours to sleep.

Tonight will be a late one as well --- one of my best friends is in town with her family visiting relatives and she's coming to the show tonight so we'll be up in the lounge 'til the wee hours gabbing afterward.

22184. alistairconnor - 7/5/2007 5:21:04 PM

How long does the show run?

... or does that depend on the public?

22185. Ms. No - 7/5/2007 5:40:12 PM

Currently we're set to run through the 29th, but the director has already asked us what our schedules are like in the couple of weeks after that because she's thinking of extending the run. This is not because we're selling out every night but because we're the last show of the season and the house is set to be dark for like six weeks after us. She sees no reason not to keep the show up and running for a couple weeks if we're still selling sufficient tickets to make it financially beneficial.

Feedback is that our reviews are good. My mom was reading one online yesterday when I was on the phone with her but she was good and didn't give me any details.

If any you guys are squeamish about female issues, look away now...

I thought I would die yesterday. We went to the mall to find a "foundation garment" for me...I left Keoni in the Men's department and toddled over to bras and things.

This dress I'm wearing Saturday to the wedding is not tight or anything but I thought it would look better with a smooth line...you know, sort of tame the buldges and rolls that happen when you're a tad overweight and have ancient muscles that have completely given up on the idea of ever being toned. I was thinking mainly of all the hugs and greetings people do on such a festive occasion and figured the less like the Michilein Man I feel to others, the better for my ego.

So the lady showed me their best seller...an all in one bra/girdle/slip thing with a snapable crotch thingy. I thought, hmmm...so THIS is what it's come to. A sort of mini full slip lined with rubber suction thingys that resemble the non-slip decals on the bathtub surface.

I attempted to get into that sucker for half an hour...it was the correct size but what the lady failed to mention was that the rubber suction things that stay in place once you situate them also prevent you from doing so without severe contortions and twistings that throw out your spine to where you can barely creep around...another thing, the "slip" part may leave no "panty lines" but the bottom of it also squeezes the tops of your thighs together so that you are unable to stride forward...
best you can manage is a sort of sidle forward and back, thighs and knees pressed together and unable to move independently.

After extricating myself from this torturous contraption, I tried the one with legs holes and bra. That was a hoot...I pulled it on like you would a pair of panties...or attempted to. It took awhile but I finally got it on to an approximate level that looked like it would work. So I bought that one...I certainly wasn't going to look further; I'd already wasted an hour on this.

This morning, I decided to try the whole outfit on but kept the phone nearby in case I got trapped halfway in. I put the contraption on from the top down and it was a little easier. Put the dress on and it worked fine.

But I have warned Keoni that if I start to faint or pass out, just grab a pair of sissors and cut me out of the "undergarment" at once. Don't wait for the Jaws of Life, just do it!

22187. alistairConnor - 7/5/2007 10:34:17 PM

Thank you for that Judith! I'm sure I enjoyed it more than you did!

Snappable crotch... sounds good. Not sure about the suction cup thingys.

22188. judithathome - 7/5/2007 10:46:51 PM

Oh Alistair...you'd have LOVED me in the swingin' 70s...no bras and pantyhose that consisted of two seperate legs that hooked together at the waist, front and back...nothing else to impede progress. Mini skirts and thigh high boots.

22189. Ms. No - 7/5/2007 10:50:29 PM

Yet another reason we get along so well, Jude.

22190. Ms. No - 7/5/2007 10:52:58 PM

My giggle for the day consisted of Googling my name and discovering that some web-bot picked up on one of the reviews and now insists that there are explicit photos of me on their website.

There are NOT!!!

But it was pretty funny to see the link.

22191. alistairConnor - 7/5/2007 10:58:31 PM

Woo - hoo!Fame! The paparazzi can't be far behind...

22192. Ms. No - 7/5/2007 11:20:58 PM

I'm not sure being trolled by a porno-site counts as fame, but I did get a nice compliment from a lady at my local coffee shop.

22193. judithathome - 7/6/2007 12:29:36 AM

Just read a review...you're golden, babe!

22194. Ms. No - 7/6/2007 12:55:23 AM

Yeah, I heard they're saying nice things about us. It's very cool!

22195. judithathome - 7/8/2007 2:14:58 PM

The wedding yesterday of my granddaughter, for us, was a disaster. The route we took had a train derailment that blocked the main highway for miles and we had to backtrack about 20 miles and wind through the country roads to get to the turn-off to the place. Then, we overshot the 2 mile drivway up to the chapel...they held the wedding as long as possible but several of us pulled up just as the pictures were being taken outside.

The bride and groom and all the attendents looked wonderful and my son arranged for us to get a DVD of the ceremony. The girls wore black dresses (that they can use later and every one of them looked wonderful in them) and the guys wore black western tuxedos with long coats and black boots...abd black Stetsons. (My son went without a hat but he looked great in that tux!)

Sounds crazy but trust me, this wedding was very "country" in theme and place. The walk leading up to the chapel has horseshoes permantly imbedded in it here and there. And the carriage that took the couple to the reception hall was pure old West, down to the cowbell around the horse's neck.

One of the groomsmen was knock-down-dead
i gorgeous...
I asked my son what his name was and if he was a male model, he was THAT hunky...my son said "Oh, you mean Fabio?" and then he said his name was really Brandon and he was 23 years old. I told him I felt like a dirty old woman thinking about buying his calendar! And he told the guy I said that...

Anyhow, it was a beautiful wedding and everyone had a great time at the reception...I just wish more of us had been able to get there in time for the ceremony.

They were SO smart about this thing...the entire cost was under four grand. And they paid for the whole thing themselves. She chose white daisies for the flowers...and they looked great! Everything was very sweet...they had little minature bales of hay with little Stetson hats perched on top and daisies and greenery as centerpieces for all the tables. And the the groom's cake was covered in fondant that looked like cow hide. (This is Texas, remember.)

22196. judithathome - 7/8/2007 2:18:28 PM

The photographer called up "the grandparents" for a group picture with the bride and groom and Keoni and I walked up...and the photographer turned to us and said politely, "Just the grandparents this time" and her grandfather said "They ARE the other grandparents!" which got a laugh from everyone. He and the groom's grandmother are in their mid 80s.
