22389. alistairconnor - 8/9/2007 8:56:42 AM Girlfriend and I both need new laptops. Mine goes on the blink like a 60s TV, it needs slapping to stabilize the image, sometimes I just have to turn it off...
Hers was stolen in the burglary, but that's probably classified information. No insurance money because the door wasn't forced, etc. Both of us are broke at the moment anyway.
No, what about a recent model off Ebay? Too risky? 22390. wabbit - 8/9/2007 9:51:18 PM We're back!
Macs used to have very definite advantages for graphics, but those days are pretty much gone. Screen resolution and color are essentially the same on both Macs and PCs these days.
I've read that you can dual-boot Apple/Windows and use Windows software on a Mac, but I don't know that I'd want to do it on a laptop.
No, I just emailed you a link for an HP laptop, let me know what you think. It's more $$ than you want to spend, but I think it's not a bad deal. 22391. robertjayb - 8/10/2007 12:03:08 AM Dell Outlet has scratch & dent, returned, and refurbished machines with warranties.
22392. arkymalarky - 8/10/2007 12:07:02 AM That's the link I was talking about! I couldn't remember what it was. 22393. judithathome - 8/10/2007 2:44:06 AM Arky, we aren't going to get "my" car until next year but we're definitely getting it from Ronnie! I'm hoping we can work it so we can drive up there, trade in my Jag to him, and drive the new one home... 22394. judithathome - 8/10/2007 2:46:06 AM MsNo, we never shred a thing...what we do is mix it into the plastic bags that hold really icky and messy garbage and stuff those into the weekly bi-collection can.
I figure if anyone is willing to dig into rotting garbage for my info, they can have it. 22395. judithathome - 8/10/2007 4:26:42 AM What the hell is wrong with WC? That place is the most unreliable site on the internet... 22396. arkymalarky - 8/10/2007 4:46:07 PM OOOoh, wouldn't that be cool. The one he was telling y'all about is a different model, Azerra (sp?), but the Sonata is perfect for him and his commute. He is so happy with it. And I got mine detailed, so it looks much better. 22397. judithathome - 8/10/2007 11:48:05 PM Arky, I bought you those pants today...black and olive green. They had brown but it was teamed with this revolting lavender pair and I didn't think it was quite your style. ;-)
I'll try to get them mailed out next week. 22398. wabbit - 8/11/2007 12:48:03 AM Hey, Ms. No, this weekend is a sales tax "holiday" in taxachusetts, and that HP laptop I emailed you about is $150 off for the weekend. 22399. arkymalarky - 8/11/2007 5:01:36 AM Wow Judith, THANKS! 22400. arkymalarky - 8/11/2007 5:06:09 AM Mazie escaped tonight, through an open garage window. She got on a box and jumped out. Thankfully she came when I called her, but it was very dark and Bob and I were in a panic--Bob as much over what would happen to him for opening that window and facilitating the escape as anything. 22401. judithathome - 8/11/2007 5:25:52 PM Oh wow...so glad she came back when you called! Time for those screens! 22402. arkymalarky - 8/11/2007 9:25:27 PM This was in the garage, which never had one, which makes me think of putting one of them there, since I'm not supposed to open my windows anyway. 22403. betty - 8/12/2007 3:24:37 AM AC
"Laptop is the best medium for watching films, short of a cinema or decent home projector. Unless there's more than three of you in the bed "
was that an invitation? 22404. judithathome - 8/12/2007 6:35:47 AM I am so angry...we went to a play this afternoon with another couple and one of the single guys in our little group. I've been ticked at this guy about the plays before...he asked me to get him a season ticket this year and I did and of the 5 plays this season, he has made it to exactly one. He always asks me to reserve two seats for him because he wants to bring a date...I asked him explicitly to call me if he wasn't needing two and since he didn't call, I kept the reservation at 6 seats...only to arrive and see he was alone.
THAT would have been enough but then, he gets up and leaves during the play! Doesn't even wait til intermission like most people would but just walks out during the play and sends a text message to our other friend that he doesn't like the play and is going home.
We are having brunch with him (and 5 other people) tomorrow morning and going with him to tour his new school...he's excited because this is a new job for him and he has been hired to be dean of this prep school. So I am going to tell him he missed seeing this actress he's wanted to date for forever TOPLESS in the second act...HA!
Arky, it's Guy...the one who pissed me off while you were here. 22405. Ulgine Barrows - 8/12/2007 7:12:40 AM thoughtful
22334. Wow, that would make me really angry! Just what you didn't need. She was feeling guilty for saying no to marriage, is all I can figure. She just wasn't done with him yet, was she? and took it out on you.
What wabbit said, how small and spiteful.
Please don't "run out of loved ones to worry about", though. That's not the way.
I don't agree completely with "let the dead go; they are no longer relevant to the living".
Your brother is part of you, and he will be relevant to you as long as you live. Let him go, after you kick his ass for suiciding, the fucking coward. His shame, not yours!
I am glad to hear you were able to clear out your parent's place while your mom is alive.
What a nightmare, to do it alone.
22353, not consolation
Think of something that you loved to do when you were 7, 14, 24....for me that was digging in the dirt and finding bugs, riding a bike, and dancing in a night club.....or 8 years old and Spirograph, whatever.
anything to get yourself back,when you're low. 22406. Ulgine Barrows - 8/12/2007 7:13:01 AM Ms. No, get a Mac. 22407. Ulgine Barrows - 8/12/2007 7:48:48 AM thoughtful
apologies for the 22405 "kick his ass for suiciding" comment, that is my own personal hell.
Your 22357
And it's so disappointing that this of all things should affect me so. Of all things. To let him of all people have this kind of impact on me. It's simply wrong. I'm wrong to allow it.
Well, he was your brother, part of your family; his death is bound to have an impact on you. I don't see anything wrong. 22408. Ulgine Barrows - 8/12/2007 7:50:01 AM Ms. No, get a Mac. You are as fully fabulous as a person who should have a Mac, is.
