The other thing is, I realize how easy it is to look smart when you're older. I used to be amazed at older people who seemed so brilliant...now i find it's only that they had a decent memory for what they lived through. I can bamboozle the young folk with 2 arms tied behind my back...I can always come up with a memory or an example and they have no comeback for it....they weren't there. 24990. vonKreedon - 1/28/2009 9:22:16 PM The birthday that hit me hardest was my 20th. I really enjoyed my twenties and would go back in a flash if only I could retain my current life at the same time. I guess what I'm really saying is I miss my 20 year old body and fearlessness. 24991. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:40:36 PM I didn't have a great childhood or teen years, but I loved my 20s and 30s. Forties haven't been too good--nothing serious, but almost constant health and stress issues, tho they're pretty much behind me now. 24992. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:45:49 PM In fact, 24993. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:47:58 PM Tho I'm home sick with a migraine, 24994. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:49:11 PM And n a painfully slow blackberry 24995. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:49:41 PM I feel like I could 24996. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:50:18 PM Run all the way 24997. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:51:17 PM To the 24998. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:51:57 PM 25th 24999. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:52:41 PM Mote Cafe 25000. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:53:05 PM Millennial! 25001. magoseph - 1/28/2009 9:53:23 PM Five years ago exactly... 25002. magoseph - 1/28/2009 9:54:30 PM ...I became the host of this thread. 25003. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 9:54:42 PM Well that's wild! 25004. iiibbb - 1/28/2009 9:59:52 PM Arky--- we're almost the same age.... in fact I'm older than you by a 2 months (Apr 30). 25005. arkymalarky - 1/28/2009 10:15:21 PM Wow, I thought you were a lot younger! Puts all your recent life changes in a whole new perspective. I must say, you're handling them beautifully compared to what I would. But then I've never handled life changes well. 25006. iiibbb - 1/29/2009 3:10:51 AM What, you mean my near constant half state of inner panic?
I think it's the Finn in me.... they have this thing called Sisu. Sisu is a Finnish term that could be roughly translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity.
I'd like to think I have that. 25007. arkymalarky - 1/29/2009 3:14:55 AM I'll have to remember that word. A good one for these days and times. 25008. alistairconnor - 1/29/2009 2:06:59 PM iii... I think you skipped a decade. Surely you'll be turning 40, not 50??
My thirties were, I suppose, my golden age, but I feel I sort of frittered them away. The forties have been the worst of times and the best of times. It's not like I'm looking forward to my 50s, but I'm in good shape physically and pretty serene about my prospects. And I've got ooooh, a good year and a half to prepare for that...
